What is your opinion on the name Bertha for a girl?
Depends⌠If pronounced âbert-uhâ, Iâm neutral; if pronounced âbirth-uhâ, I dislike it.
Iâll be honest, the name is unlikely to meet with a warm reception from non-Berries. I think most people will find it dusty to say the least.
(Thatâs not to say you shouldnât love it or use it, though!)
I donât mind the name at all, but the connotations of âBig Berthaâ are immediate, which might be too unfortunate a link.
I donât mind the old clunkiness of it. Prefer the [name_f]Berta[/name_f] pronunciation of it though.
I love [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] so much! But I wouldnât use because very few people like it.
Hmm, I like it because I like clunky, old-lady names, but I think other people might not have a positive response. I can see [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] being more approachable for a girl if you went for [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] nn [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] though!
I find it a bit clunky but not in a good way, sorry
I agree with the other posters. I find it very clunky and I would be concerned about teasing because of the âBig Berthaâ connotation. It would be an unfortunate name to have if youâre overweight.
I dislike it because the sounds are unappealing to me, and I have seen the name used as a joke with negative connotations, but that doesnât mean itâs not a perfectly nice name!
Unfortunate sounding and easily mocked.
I feel like of all of the vintage-y names, [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] just isnât really going to make a revival, and I donât really like it, sorry.
NMSAA, it seems dated
Sorry, another vote against [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] here for many of the reasons others have already given. The sound is pretty unappealing to me - FWIW I feel similarly about [name_f]Martha[/name_f], which I think is much more popular among Berries. I think the only new detail I have to add is that looking at both [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] and [name_f]Martha[/name_f] as objectively as possible I think they pack a lot of consonant sounds into the first syllable that then donât get counterbalanced later - [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], for example, feels more complete and less harsh to me than Bertha.
It feels quite overbearing to me. But then I do like my dainty, vintage names. It was actually my great grandmothers middle name.
I think I would prefer [name_f]Alberta[/name_f] which I think sounds âprettierâ and the NN [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] is cute.
