Hello berries!
What do you think of the name [name_f]Dymphna[/name_f] for a girl?
A bit of history about the name: it has Irish origin and means “eligible, fit”. [name_f]Dymphna[/name_f] was a 7th century Irish princess who was killed by her father after refusing to marry him. She,like her mother, was a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] and desired to remain chaste until death. Following her mother’s death, his father decided to marry her, his own daughter, because of her resemblance to her mother, he became mentally ill, [name_f]Dymphna[/name_f] refused and escaped to Geel, Belgium, where he followed her and killed her. She is the patron saint of people with anxiety, depression and all other mental illnesses and diseases.

Is it usable, does it sound weird, ugly , strange ? Tell me your honest opinion, if you could also rate it from 1 to 10 it would be great!
I quite dislike this one… it sounds very frumpy to me, honestly, and yes - strange describes it well. The “Dymp” looks like the word “dump” which is never like in a name… Just really not my cup of tea, but I can’t place my finger on just one thing that turns me off of it. Sort of a culmination of things! I’d give it a 2/10. I have heard worse!
I’d maybe rate it a 3 I’m afraid. I can see how it’s intriguing and different but there’s something about it that strikes me as very medical
Thank you for your opinion. I didn’t think of the possible similarity with the word dump.
Thank you for your thoughts
I really want to like this one!! The mphn is quite hard to pronounce and i find myself getting confused over whether its dimfna or dimpfna. I feel like if there was one less sound in it it would flow a lot better!!
It looks like dyspnea to me unfortunately.
I much prefer Dympna. I once saw a nurse on the news named Dympna!
I think a good nickname would be ‘Dimples’
I really don’t like how it looks. And the sound is also pretty off putting to me to be honest. I also think the story is not very appealing.
I find it very difficult to say, that -mphn- consonant blend is a doozy. Then the history doesn’t do it many favors.
I think it’s interesting, and the meaning “fawn” is so sweet, but would keep this one squarely in the middle name zone. 3/10
