Opinion on Ellis?

I absolutely adore [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] and have always thought of it as a boy’s name. I like that it is a less common alternative for the name [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] - another name I love. The only problem I’m having with it is that when people initially hear it they think it is a girl"s name. What do you think? Can it be used for a boy?

When you look at the stats, it’s still a boys’ name and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]’ history is certainly male. However, I’m not sure exactly how long that’ll last. But [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]'s popularity for boys will make sure [name_f]El[/name_f]- names for boys stay acceptable, making [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] very much usable for boys.

I think it’s incredibly odd to imagine it on a girl - [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is 100% masculine to me, and I love it!

[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is 100% masculine to me. I have not personally ever heard anyone think otherwise. It is a very handsome name.

I love [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]! All boy for me.

[name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is on my long list and a masculine boy name in my opinion! I love it because it is unique but also classic sounding. That being said, it is a name that could start being used for girls more and more, given the current trends. I would still use it for a boy!

I know [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] is a boy’s name, but is sounds feminine. Probably because it sounds soft, more along the lines of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I would go with [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] as that is unmistakably masculine. Or maybe something similar like [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. I definitely think [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] works on a boy, I’m just saying that it doesn’t sound or look very manly. That’s just my opinion:)

I love it for a boy. I can see why ppl take it in a feminine direction as it’s a softer boy name and has a lot in common with other [name_f]El[/name_f]- girl names. But I def think it is masculine enough for a boy. Great meaning and it kinda has a smooth jazzy vibe to it, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Like [name_m]Miles[/name_m].
