Husband and I have narrowed down our names to Lorelai, Lilah and Penny (Penelope), though the last one is probably last place because we didn’t realise how popular it is in US and UK. We think we’ll wait until we see her little face and hopefully we’ll just know what fits, but tell me if I’m crazy – if we go with Lorelai (nn Lo/Lolly) will people ALWAYS ask/joke about Gilmore Girls?? I’ve never met anyone else with the name outside of the show but always thought it was pretty, my husband is a bit older and his generation doesn’t even really know what this show is but now I’m paranoid and wanted to ask! What do you all think? Also would this traditionally be associated with the Southern US/a southern name, or not really?
And as a bonus, any middle name suggestions for any of the three names above would be lovely Thank you!
Lorelai is so pretty! I do prefer the traditional spelling: Lorelei. I think it shakes off the Gilmore Girls connection and makes it feel like a beautiful name with German roots.
That said, I’m 18 and I don’t know anyone my age who has watched Gilmore Girls, so I doubt she’d get the joke often.

I do associate it with the [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] girls but not the south. I lived in [name_f]Alabama[/name_f] and [name_u]Tennessee[/name_u] and have relatives in [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and have never heard of anyone with this name in real life.
I love [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] and for me, it makes it better because of the [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls association.
We have a family friend who has a daughter named [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and at least in our family no one has every brought it up. Maybe people have in their other circles but her cousin is a boy [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and no one gave that a second thought either.
I love love love the name [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] and how unique it is,almost no one associates it with [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] girls,it was already a name before the show was made,I like [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] too but it’s so popular at the moment even more popular than [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] where I live,so I wouldn’t choose it if popularity bothers you
i adore the name lorelai! it’s one of my favorites, and i do associate w gilmore girls, but in a good way. i think it’s such a pretty & unique name. i have lorelai ingrid on my list and it means something like “beautiful alluring enchantress” i think (i’m not good with meanings). i also adore the nn lo!!

The only association I have with [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] is with “Lorelei” by [name_m]Tom[/name_m] [name_m]Tom[/name_m] Club and I love that song. I don’t associate it with [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls or the south. I think it is a very sweet name and sounds so pretty!
I’m personally not a fan of [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f]. I do think of the [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls but don’t see that as a bad thing - it’s the sounds and feel of the name that don’t appeal to me. I really like the other 2 on your list though.
I love [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and Lila!!! So sweet! I don’t think people will mention the show. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if a few do, the association will definitely fade with time.

I love [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] though and don’t see what’s wrong with the association but [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] could avoid it. Not to mention [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] is the traditional spelling anyway.
