Opinion on name: Chelsea

First post! I hope you lovely ladies can help me

I am stuck on the name [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], with second name [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (after my grandmother). I love it but have thought of a few reasons why it might not workā€¦

  1. My name is [name_u]Stacey[/name_u]. Does [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] together clash (similar sound at the end) or should we not worry about this too much? Iā€™ve never had the responsibility of naming another human before!

  2. I just realized it is a kind of similar sounding name to our cat. Both start with ch. Again is this a big deal?

Any other opinions on the name overall? I have read it is a bit of a 90s name, but I like the sound of it and most of all I donā€™t think it has been overused.

I am looking at name lists all the time and havenā€™t got any other names I feel as strongly about (or even close). If this is not the right name I need to get it out of my head now before I become too attached! Iā€™ve already almost referred to ā€˜peanutā€™ out loud in public as [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u].

Thanks!

I love the name [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]! But I do think there could be a bit of a better fit than [name_f]Eva[/name_f]-- [name_f]ChelSEE[/name_f] [name_f]EEva[/name_f] is a lot of ā€œeeā€ sounds. [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Ava[/name_f], perhaps?

My name is [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] and honestly, Iā€™ve never loved my name. Not to say itā€™s not the right name for your child itā€™s just not the right name for me.

Hereā€™s some of the reasons why I donā€™t personally love my name:

[name_m]Bill[/name_m] [name_m]Clinton[/name_m] was elected when I was in elementary school. I have heard [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_m]Clinton[/name_m] jokes ever since. I donā€™t have anything personal against her but the joke started to wear on me after a while. Especially as I used to work in customer service. Thatā€™s probably not going to be an issue for your child.

People have pronunciation problems with [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]. And I have never really figured out why. Mostly I get call [name_f]Chels-ee[/name_f]-A.

I really dislike the nickname Chels. Especially when used by car dealers.

My parents chose [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] as a last minute alternative. My mom wanted to name me [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] but was told it was ugly. Sheā€™s regretted it ever since.

So regardless of all of the reasons why I donā€™t like my name, if you feel like [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] is the perfect name for your little girl donā€™t let anyone talk you out of it.

First, I donā€™t think it matters as much if the parent and childā€™s names donā€™t match. Itā€™s fine:)

Second, I have younger sisters and cousins and, as I was once a little girl myself, I happen to know that [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] are [name_f]Barbie[/name_f]ā€˜s sistersā€™ names. Idk if that bothers you or not.

I dont really like [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], it sounds like your typical suburban white mom kind of name, and both dated and overly trendy on the same time
I also dont really like it with a mom named [name_u]Stacey[/name_u], sorry
[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] doesnt flow that well either

[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] works fine with your name.
[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] is spunky and cute and I have always been fond of it.
[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eva[/name_f], as someone already mentioned, is clashing vowel sounds.
Other options:

[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]

I think [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] is absolutely gorgeous! I dont see it as dated at all, as I only know of two from when I was growing up, both are my age.

I think [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is nice but I do agree with PP that it runs together a bit because of the EE sounds so close together. I second the idea of [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Ava[/name_f]!!

Also, I never worry about whether or not a name sounds weird with mine. Iā€™m a [name_u]Haley[/name_u] who loves the name [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]/[name_f]Hadleigh[/name_f] LOL the odds of the two names being said together like that arent likely, and people likely wont notice similarities either.

My same suggestion. Also [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] comes off as a bit dated to me.

Not a big fan of [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] personally, but if youā€™re already referring to the baby as [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], then itā€™s probably ā€œtheā€ name regardless of what others think. (unless your partner hates it, in which case you would probably want to compromise on something else. :))

I think [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] is really cute. Are you aware that [name_u]Stacy[/name_u] and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] are [name_f]Barbie[/name_f]'s sisters name.

I really like [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]. If you have an issue with the ch sound, how about [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u]?

I love [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]! My step-sister is named [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] and I have always adored her name and the nn Chels. Itā€™s on my long list probably as a middle name. I donā€™t think [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] clash at all and a name similar to a cat is not a big deal whatsoever. I do think [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] clashā€¦ what about [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]?

I think [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] sounds great. [name_f]Honour[/name_f] names trump flow. I donā€™t see it as dated either, those kinds of things are personal to people based on their associations. It doesnā€™t sound dated to you, so whatever! Use it!

I love [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]! Along with [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], itā€™s one of the few names that was common on my peers that I would consider for a daughter. It was never overused and I think it would be nicely distinct now. [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is a little awkward with the EE-EE, but I donā€™t think it matters much. I definitely donā€™t think your name or your catā€™s name are of any concern at all.

I think itā€™s dated. I donā€™t think itā€™s an issue that your name and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] end in the same sound or that your catā€™s name starts with ā€œch.ā€

Seconding that [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] are two of [name_f]Barbie[/name_f]'s sisters, so youā€™re definitely going to get that connotation. I donā€™t think the ending or the ch is an issue.

My name is [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] as well and I agree with all of this. Lol The only difference is I spell my name [name_f]Chelsee[/name_f], so I donā€™t get called Chel-see-uh, but have gotten [name_m]Che[/name_m]-leese. I honestly donā€™t understand how people manage to mispronounce it. I also have heard similar things on here from other Chelseas. Other people seem to like our names, but we donā€™t. Haha

That being said, like this poster mentioned, if you think itā€™s the name for you, then you go for it!

Edited to add if you do decide on Chelsea, might I suggest a unique middle name? My middle name is Anne and while I like that itā€™s an honor name, I find it a bit boring and Iā€™ve always been disappointed I didnā€™t have a cooler middle name to possibly go by since I didnā€™t live my first name. Haha

I donā€™t like the name [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]. Probably due to the few [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]'s I knew as kid. This is however only my opinion.
It sounds like you love the name, and that is truly all that matters. It might be a refreshing change to have a [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] when everyone else has [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s, and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s. When I grew up 90% of the girls had top ten names, including myself, and it was so annoying referring to everyone with their last initials. I had a good friend named [name_f]Helen[/name_f], and I always thought it was so refreshing in a sea of [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]'s. I suspect that your daughter would be in a similar situation with the name [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u].
I donā€™t think itā€™s an issue that [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] and [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] end similarly, or that the cats name starts with a ch sound.
If you love the name, donā€™t worry about the rest of us.
I do however feel that [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] does run together a bit much, but some parents seem to like that. Thatā€™s the only second thought I would have on it.
Maybe if you named the baby [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] [name_f]Eva[/name_f]? Then just call her [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u] all the time?
