Opinion on our boys names

I don’t love any boys names in the same ways as girls names - let me know your thoughts our surname is a traditional occupational name beginning with F

[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] ‘[name_m]Alf[/name_m]’ not so keen on [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] - is it too popular?
[name_m]Rufus[/name_m] - I like this but OH thinks it’s a dog name?
[name_u]Max[/name_u] - is it a bit boring?
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Toby[/name_u]’ - I like this is but have a very close family member called [name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] - I like
[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] - is it too out there?
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - I would like a name with a nickname and I’m not keen on [name_u]Jaz[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - is it a bid of a fad with [name_m]Roman[/name_m] & [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]?
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Wilf[/name_m] too but does it sound really posh?

Any other suggestions?

For [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] I think I like the nn [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] best. That would avoid people calling [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] [name_u]Alfie[/name_u].

I love [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]. I think [name_u]Max[/name_u] is actually more of a dog’s name than [name_m]Rufus[/name_m].

I absolutely love [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]! I like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] in full, and I don’t think it would need a nn.

Out of [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], I would probably go for [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] to avoid the whole friendly ghost thing.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is very handsome, but I do agree that it seems a bit trendy at the moment.

[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] is unexpected, but you might wind up with [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] as a nickname since it’s so intuitive. [name_m]Alf[/name_m] makes me think of that TV show…

[name_m]Rufus[/name_m] is not my style, and yes! It does make me think of a dog name (although that doesn’t have to be a bad thing, I give my pets names that I would have named children…)

I love [name_u]Max[/name_u], I don’t think it’s boring. You could always give him a longer variation like [name_m]Maximus[/name_m], [name_m]Maximillian[/name_m], or [name_m]Maxim[/name_m]/e just to help him stand out a bit if you’d like.

[name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] I love. I don’t think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is a fad at all. Seems more in the long established [name_u]Owen[/name_u] family to me.

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] I really like but I worry it might still be too Friendly Ghost.

[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] is not my style, but it’s not bad. Gives me a very vintage Grandpa vibe that has yet to make its comeback.

Suggestions:
[name_m]Albert[/name_m] (similar to [name_m]Alfred[/name_m])
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] (instead of [name_m]Caspar[/name_m])
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] (like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m])
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]

Sorry if I’m off the mark. Some of the names ([name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]) were more contemporary to me, but others ([name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], and [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]) extremely more obscure vintage, with [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] in a league of its own. So I tried to go with what gave me a similar feel. Overall, [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Max[/name_u], and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] are my favourites from your list and I would love to see [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] used. It’s a fantastic name! Good luck!

I like [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. I agree that [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] is 100% a dog’s name, sorry. I like [name_u]Max[/name_u] but I prefer [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] nn [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] works better than [name_m]Wilf[/name_m] which I feel is an awkward nn.

[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_u]Leland[/name_u]
[name_m]Myron[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]

Now you’ve said it, [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] does seem a bit like a dog name! Would [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] work instead?
I really like [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I don’t think any of them are boring (although [name_u]Max[/name_u] is popular), but I can see the problem with a [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] having a close relative called [name_u]Toby[/name_u].

[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] ‘[name_m]Alf[/name_m]’ - love the charming [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] but i think it might be difficult to completely avoid [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] sincd it’s so popular

[name_m]Rufus[/name_m] - rugged and cool

[name_u]Max[/name_u] - familiar but not overused

[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Toby[/name_u]’ - I love it but id avoid it due to the family connection

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] - cool, relaxed and lovely sounding

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] - not too out there! I like it’s soft yet distinctive soundd

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. Cool, vintage with a kind of subtlety to it. [name_u]Jem[/name_u] or [name_u]Perry[/name_u] could be alternative nn

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - i don’t think it’s too much of a fad. I know 2 older Rowans

[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] - cute, charming and a little rough round the edges

Thank you for all your suggestions!

I think there are some clear winners, I really love [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] & [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]/[name_m]Caspar[/name_m]. I think that style maybe in more ‘us’ going to try saying them out loud see which fits!

We both have two different quite strong regional accents so need to think about what sounds good in those too. We live in [name_u]London[/name_u] but are likely to move back up north at some point.
