Opinion On Sibset

I’m not actually naming a child anytime soon, so this will likely change before I get around to needing it, but I have an idea for a sibset, and wanted opinions. [name_f]Any[/name_f] thoughts, concerns, similar names, or meanings that you want to share are welcome. All I ask is that you do so kindly.

  • [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m] (Boy)
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] [name_m]Melrose[/name_m] (Girl)
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Briony[/name_f] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] (Girl)
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_m]Mercer[/name_m] [name_m]Reighn[/name_m] (Boy)
  • [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

I enjoy the fact that both girl names end in ‘rose’ and both boys names end in ‘ghn’. I’m also fond of the similar endings for both boys, and both girls. To me, it gives a sense of cohesiveness without the repetition of all of the names ending with the same sound or letter.

I like the surname-y vibe of the first names [name_f][/name_f]- cool and slightly outdoorsy without feeling too matchy. They feel contemporary and cool but with not overly on trend, if that makes sense.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]The[/name_m] one name that stands out to me is probably [name_m]Reighn[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- spelling-wise, it feels a bit forced?

I really like how cohesive your whole sibset feels, especially with the intentional matching of endings for the girls and the boys. It’s creative without being overly matchy.

[name_f][/name_f]

One thing I did notice, though, is that [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] [name_m]Melrose[/name_m] and [name_f]Briony[/name_f] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] actually share quite a lot of similar sounds [name_f][/name_f]- the r and o in the first names, the soft endings, and then the matching -rose in the middle names. Because there are so many overlapping elements in both names, it might end up feeling a bit too similar, almost like they blend together. If that’s what you’re going for, it’s lovely, but it’s something to keep in mind.

[name_f][/name_f]

As for [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m], the only flow issue for me is the double “v” sound, which bumps into itself a little. [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] is an old surname with historical roots [name_f][/name_f], but style-wise it still feels a little more quirky or uncommon compared to the others, which lean more literary or vintage. That’s not a bad thing [name_f][/name_f]- just a difference in vibe.

[name_f][/name_f]

For [name_m]Mercer[/name_m] [name_f]Reign[/name_f], the flow is almost there [name_f][/name_f]- the ending “r” of [name_m]Mercer[/name_m] and the starting “R” of [name_f]Reign[/name_f] do blend together a little, but it’s not too strong. It’s still very workable.

[name_f][/name_f]

Overall, the set is really thoughtful and has a strong aesthetic. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a couple of sound-balance things to consider!

Do you have anything other suggestions for Tolliver and Mercer? I never thought they bumped into each other, or ran into one another, but I do see where you’re coming from.

It was the last one I settled on. [name_m]Do[/name_m] you have any other ideas for middle names ending with ‘ghn’?. [name_m]Or[/name_m] another suggestion for partially matching middle names for [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Mercer[/name_m]?

I agree totally that the girls might be a little too[name_f][/name_f] matchy (much as I love the matching -rose endings), and that Tolliver Vaughn and [name_m]Merce[/name_m]r[name_f][/name_f] Reighn are a little tongue twistery.

[name_f][/name_f]

Incidentally if you are looking for names with a specific ending like -ghn you can try the advanced search[name_f][/name_f] on nameberry!

I really love the cohesiveness of the whole sibset! The one that stands out to me is Reighn – it feels too modern and quite out-of-place with all of the other names. I feel like John would work well instead of Reighn – you’d still get both boy names to end in “hn.”

One thing that immediately came to mind is spelling [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m] as [name_m]Vaughan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- same pronunciation and a well-established form. That opens you up to -an names in general (or even one syllable names ending in N?)

[name_f][/name_f]

I’m thinking like…
