Opinion on the name Alfonsina?

Hello! I am from [name_f]Argentina[/name_f] and I love old timey names in spanish that sound very vintage and delicate, I am talking names like [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] (caro-lee-na), [name_f]Martina[/name_f] or [name_f]Clementina[/name_f] (clemen-tee-na), [name_f]Delfina[/name_f]…

And recently I fell in love with Alfonsina, which to some native spanish speakers may sound too much of a “vintage name” but to me it’s so elegant, sweet and lovely.

There’s a song based on the story of Alfonsina Storni, argentinian poet who commited suicide by jumping to the sea in 1930. (Not a pretty story, but the song is one of my favorite melodies of all times)

Alfonsina was a great poet, so it gives the name that poetic, vintage vibe… plus a lot of royals were given this name in the 1800s

All that apart, what do you feel when you hear Alfonsina? Is it “interesting” or too hard to pronounce in english? It is pronounced the same way you read it…

If i don’t use it as a first name, I will use it as a middle name with a short fn

[name_f]Lia[/name_f] Alfonsina
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] Alfonsina
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] Alfonsina

Mía, Lía and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] are equally sweet!

Thank u

It’s not my style, but I like your associations with it and think it can work. If used as a mn, I would probably use something that does not end in A as it makes the combo too rhyme-y for me. [name_u]Clare[/name_u] Alfonsina, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Alfonsina, etc. sound better to me.

Alfonsina is really sweet. I like it.
[name_f]Lia[/name_f] Alfonsina has a nice ring to it

It is quite pretty and flowery, and fits very well with your other favorites! I do slightly prefer [name_f]Alfonsia[/name_f]. I think it is just as pretty, but easier to say.

At first glance, I wasn’t keen but reading your associations with it and taking more of a look at it, Alfonsina is definitely growing on me. I can certainly see the appeal and the reasons that you like it are very sweet. With your preferred style ([name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Clementina[/name_f], [name_f]Martina[/name_f], etc) it fits but I also really like [name_f]Lia[/name_f] Alfonsina as a combo. As a British English speaker, I have no problems pronouncing it.
