Opinion on the name Halo?

Recently, I have been loving the name Halo, for a girl. I like girl names that end in “o” like [name_f]Willow[/name_f] but Halo just seems so angelic and beautiful. My first daughter I plan on naming [name_u]Harper[/name_u], like an angel’s harp so I thought maybe for a second daughter, Halo would sync well. Some people think of the game Halo, but I’m not into video games and if anything I believe people would think more about an actual halo than some video game when they see this name. What do you think about this name?

Halo is very unusual, but I like it, and I think [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and Halo would make adorable sisters.

Names like [name_f]Angela[/name_f], [name_f]Angeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Angelique[/name_f] are common… so why not Halo?
I will admit the video game connotation (i’ve dated a few gamers) kind of sullied the name for me at least.
It’s fine conceptually though.

I love it! Very beautiful! [name_u]Harper[/name_u] & Halo sound nice together, but I personally wouldn’t pair them together. [name_u]Harper[/name_u] is a very popular unisex name, and Halo is uncommon and unusual. Maybe it’s just me, but when I think of pairing names together, I like for them to have similar levels of popularity. I would hate for one child to have a super popular/common name, and for the other to have a super unusual one. Especially if they’re the same gender.

I don’t do video games, but I thought of that game when I read the post title. Halo does work with names like [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Haven[/name_u], [name_f]Heaven[/name_f], ect…so why not Halo? The video game association & the angel theme isn’t for me, but it works!

I disagree with you, EVERYONE knows about Halo the video game and it would be the first thing to pop into most people’s heads, at least the people that I know – my friends are all 23-33ish though, other generations might not think of it as prevalently.

I’m not really a big fan of it as a name in general, anything related to heaven/angels seems like a lot to live up to. [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and Halo are way too much together [name_f]IMO[/name_f], although if you hadn’t said about the angels harp I wouldn’t have thought of that. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Echo[/name_u]? [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_u]Echo[/name_u] are kind of sweet together.

I’ve never played Halo but that along with angel’s halo was my first thought.

To me it’s like naming a kid Crown or [name_f]Tiara[/name_f]. A halo was meant to denote holiness, not just cute cherubs. So it’s even more of a challenging name than something like [name_f]Charity[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Serenity[/name_f], etc.

I think a good option would be [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. It has the association of the laurel wreath which was a form of honor, and it has similarities to [name_f]Willow[/name_f] as well.
[name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] would be a great sibset.

Hallow seems at once more sacred and more wearable. Halo makes me think of kitschy simpering cherubs on 90’s sympathy cards. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Haven[/name_u], [name_u]Harbor[/name_u], or [name_u]Hero[/name_u]?

I agree with this completely. I am not a gamer, and if you were to ask me about video games you would get a blank stare. But I still think of the video game when someone says Halo.
So I vote no.

Well said!

I’m also reminded of the [name_f]Beyonce[/name_f] song; admittedly I’ve had ‘baby I can see your halo (halo, halooo…)’ stuck in my head once or twice. But those times I remember thinking it had a pretty sound and definite ‘word name’ potential (not at the caliber of [name_u]Haven[/name_u], maybe, but easily better than [name_f]Heaven[/name_f]).

Am also remembering Hila (rhymes with [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Sheila[/name_f], [name_f]Leela[/name_f], etc.) from the ‘Israeli Baby Names’ blog post.

It’s not my style, but it’s 10x better than [name_f]Neveah[/name_f] or [name_f]Heaven[/name_f] or [name_u]Angel[/name_u] for a girl.

Go for it!

What about [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]? or [name_f]Celestine[/name_f] or [name_f]Celestia[/name_f]?
They all have the heaven connotation and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_u]Harper[/name_u] are both 6 letters

Prefer both on boys, however they make cute sibset!

I think the name is OK and depends on how it flows with the middle and last, but as a sibset I think the idea is …not tasteful.

Sorry, but I think the video game connotation would be almost impossible to escape with this one. What about [name_f]Harlow[/name_f], which has a similar sound without the kitschy/gamer associations?

Not to my taste at all… Sorry. I think it’s too obvious. I completely agree with and support the suggestions of [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and [name_u]Haven[/name_u]. They’re still related and have that meaning, but the special meaning isn’t wearing neon and jumping up and down in your face.
It reminds me of the thread a long time ago from a (troll?? Can’t remember) poster who said she just luuuurved Disney movies and Disney world like soooo much, and she wanted to name her daughter Disney in honor of that. People’s reactions were as expected, and some suggested why not using character names (aurora, jasmine, etc) instead to pull in that meaning without being so blatant about it. I think that tactic can make for really intriguing, coherent choices (and sibsets!) that sound classy, not cheesy.

I agree. I’m not a gamer and have never played Halo, yet that’s still the first thing I think of when I see someone name their daughter Halo.

I thought of the video game instantly. I like your idea, but I really did think of it. I play it with my husband and several other girls do too, so, its not just a guy thing. Not to say the association cannot be shaken, but it is definitely an immediate image that I got.
