Opinion on these “gender-bending” names?

I don’t mind some of these for girls! The only ones I have more strong feeling on is [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] and [name_u]Timothy[/name_u] (though I do think [name_u]Timothy[/name_u] can be kinda cute on the right person) because it’s a biblical boy name, [name_u]Israel[/name_u] would be in that group too but it’s also a country so it’s mixed feelings. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites for a girl are [name_u]Dorian[/name_u], [name_u]Henri[/name_u] and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u]. The rest are eh in general, though I think that [name_u]Archer[/name_u], [name_u]Bennett[/name_u], [name_u]Harry[/name_u], [name_u]Sean[/name_u] and [name_u]Timothy[/name_u] can work.

I wish on NB that more word and nature names were considered unisex on here, to me any word/nature name can be unisex cause they don’t have genders, name your son [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and your daughter [name_m]Rocky[/name_m], there’s no reason not to.

I can see [name_u]Israel[/name_u], [name_u]Dorian[/name_u], [name_u]Julian[/name_u] & [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] working for girls! The others I think I’d have to meet one irl for them to grow on me.

I can see [name_u]Harry[/name_u] & [name_u]Henri[/name_u] as nicknames for [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] & [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] respectively.
[name_u]Quincy[/name_u] feels very unisex due to the proximity to [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] but it’s still quite masculine to me due to [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] [name_m]Adams[/name_m].

As stand alone names? Not a chance. They are all too masculine to work on a girl without said girl being bullied for having a boys name. (whether it be as a kid or adult)

I have seen [name_u]Connor[/name_u], [name_u]Shaun[/name_u], and [name_u]Liam[/name_u] on girls before and it doesn’t sit right. They have also had problems such as being viewed as male from their name but when being met they get ignored/not chosen for being a girl. (like job interviews, meeting SO family, applying for loans, buying cars/houses, etc)

As nicknames for longer or feminine names? Sure.
Eg. [name_u]Harry[/name_u] - [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_u]Henri[/name_u] - Henriette/a

Which names can I see people using on their daughters?
[name_u]Bennett[/name_u] nn [name_u]Bennie[/name_u]
[name_u]Connor[/name_u] nn [name_u]Connie[/name_u]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] nn [name_f]Dori[/name_f]
[name_u]Israel[/name_u] nn Isy or [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_u]Julian[/name_u] nn Julie/Jules
[name_u]Liam[/name_u] nn [name_f]Lia[/name_f]
[name_u]Quincy[/name_u] nn [name_u]Quin[/name_u]

I agree with @TeaJay, if you’re willing to name a daughter something so masculine, you have to be willing to name your son something feminine.
But the problem with that will end up being confusion as to which name belongs to which kid/gender. Which opens up a whole other can of worms really.

I wouldn’t really call any of these names gender bending. I have met female Shawn’s but never spelled [name_u]Sean[/name_u]. I feel like [name_u]Harry[/name_u] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] might be used as nicknames for girls names but I don’t really know if anyone would use them as full names for girls. [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] I guess I could see it’s rare enough for boys that it’s not really strongly associated with boys but names like [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] and [name_u]Timothy[/name_u] are not crossing over to even being rare girl names or much less unisex.

I prefer all of these on boys, but I think [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] could both work on girls. I’ve also encountered a couple female Shaun’s (that spelling) but I have known enough male Sean’s that the name is masculine to me personally.

I think I can maybe see Bennett and Israel, not a fan of the others.

TBH I’m here for causing some gender chaos (I love unisex names) but I don’t think most people giving their girls masculine coded names are thinking about that they just think it’s “cool” which leads to a double standard.

Yes! I suggested [name_f]Evening[/name_f] and I was surprised it showed up pink! Like what gender is a time of day lol??

I can only see [name_u]Connor[/name_u] or [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] on a girl and that’s a stretch. What’s next? Naming boys ‘Elizabeth’ and ‘Katherine’?

Tbh I would have thought a masculine name would be advantageous in those situations except maybe the SO family, which I would think would not matter once they got a look at her.
Isn’t it illegal to deny a loan based on gender?

YESSSSS!
I love feminine names on boys for middles. Think they sound so much more badass and gives them more of a personality.
Eg [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Donald[/name_m] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
Would love to see flower names on boys too!
Eg [name_f]Anemone[/name_f] nn Nemo/Annie, [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] nn [name_m]Ven[/name_m], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] nn Noel/Mags

I think it depends on the person? For some it’ll be advantageous for others not so much.
So much hassle on name/gender confusions though. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with medical issues can be a problem.
I have no clue if it’s illegal or not. But I think it was more that her partner had to be in charge of the loan cause he’s the man not her. That kind of gender issue.

@Perpetua possibly. I guess at that stage it would depend on how attractive they were or what they’re willing to do?

Idk guys. People just suck sometimes.

That makes me so sad. Sending love and hugs :kissing_heart:
I’m quite petite and get referred to as dainty and delicate even after they find out I’m a firefighter
For some reason being my size also means people think they can put their hands on me whenever they please. So not okay!
I agree with you there.

Bennett, Connor, Dorian, Julian, and Quincy I could see working on girls! I knew a female Connor, she rocked the name! Bennett I feel is close enough to Bentley to work, and I know a little girl named Bentley. Dorian I just ADORE, for both boys and girls!!!

Harry and Henri would be super cute as well, but feel more nicknamey to me.

The rest of them feel pretty strictly boy to me. I couldn’t see a little girl named Timothy, Gary or Benjamin especially.

You know who else loves these names on boys? Middle school bullies.
No, but seriously why? It’s so demeaning.

Definitely don’t agree that it’s demeaning. Being feminine is not a bad thing. Boys can be as feminine as they’d like.
