Opinions about Hattie as a full name

I feel [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] works as a full name. I would like to hear other’s opinions on this.

Anyone? [name_m]Bueller[/name_m]?

I like [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], but only as a nickname for [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] or [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], with either [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] or [name_f]Hetty[/name_f] as nicknames

I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] works as a full name, it sort of reminds me of names like [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] and [name_f]Essie[/name_f]-both workable.

I like it just fine as a name on it’s own  I have a placement for college at my old elementary school, and to get there, I often walk through the graveyard behind my house (which is the best spot to find names from 100+ years ago - no burials have been done there since 1989, and no one with a birth year after 1930 has been buried there), and I’ve found a few lovely combos for [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]

I’ll look again for some more and see what I find

[name_u]Haley[/name_u], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is beautiful. I am writing [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] down as a maybe middle name. Any other suggestion (from anyone) would be welcomed.

I bet you have found a wonderful collection of names.

It’s a favourite of mine too  I really have! I know [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] had at least 2 sisters (all three died as infants) - [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. I’ve found some unique ones too, like Florala

I don’t think it works as a full name personally, but each to their own!

So very sad.

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] go wonderfully together.

I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] works great, but don’t forget lovely middles to pair it with
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]

Thank you, cadeence. I love the suggestions of [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I would not use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] because I already have [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] in combos. I have a late sister that was named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] both honor her. I am jotting down [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f].

One of my best friends has a sister named [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], which is not short for anything. She was born around 1998, so her mom was ahead of the naming trend. It was so unique when she was born, but I don’t think anyone would bat an eye at a baby named that now. I love it as a stand alone name.

I don’t like it. It’s tolerable as a nn, but just kind of old and grouchy to me.

I know  They were wonderfully named though. I believe [name_f]Edith[/name_f]'s middle name was Marr, which happened to be their mother’s maiden name (or so it appeared). Oddly enough, that particular graveyard is primarily young children, which I find to be very upsetting, but, many of them had truly gorgeous names, such as [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].

I almost always like to see nickname-names stretched out to their full, formal names, but for some reason I just love [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]. I really love [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], too, so for me that’s what I would go with. But if you don’t like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] or [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is great. I would probably want to make sure to give a substantial middle name—[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] as suggested is very nice. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], etc. would be lacking to me.

like them all.

Because I am wild about [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], I might start with those names, but of the three names I titled this with, I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] stands best alone as a full name.

I would love to see more cemetery name threads. I recently attended my uncle’s burial at a military cemetery and oh, the wonderful names.

Where my grandma and sister are buried, they have a separate area for the children’s graves. I am saddened by cemeteries in the first place but to see those little gravesides and see how short their little lives were is even more upsetting.

Here, they all seem to be buried with their parents/other siblings. As sad as it is, sometimes, interesting sibling sets are found. So far, I’ve found:

[name_f]Edith[/name_f] Marr
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]

[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
Gladson
[name_u]Marion[/name_u]
[name_f]Addie[/name_f]

Etoil
[name_u]Percy[/name_u]
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

[name_m]Horace[/name_m]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

[name_u]Allie[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Edith[/name_f] Marr (twins, died 4 days apart)

[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]

Some lovely FN/MN combos too;

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] Uella
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Virtue[/name_f]* (*[name_f]Virtue[/name_f] was her mother’s maiden name)

I haven’t found many for boys, except for one;

[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jude[/name_u].

I’ll have another look and see what else I find!

Thank you for all your opinions.

I am not a fan of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] or [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]. My dad’s middle name is [name_m]Henry[/name_m], which does make me pause at the name. If I did not go with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] to honor my dad I could honor him using [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]. I do not think I would ever call her [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], she would always go by [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] or [name_f]Hettie[/name_f]. [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] also stands out from all the other names. Would [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] or [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] honor my dad? Does [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] work has a full name? My wheels are turning now.

I agree with this, I dont think it can stand alone especially with some of the other names in your sig
