Here is the situation: My partner loves the name [name]Oscar[/name], and refuses to consider anything else. I also like the name a lot. And I don’t have any other names in mind that I’m in love with. BUT, I’m concerned that using the name [name]Oscar[/name] is setting up our kid for a crazy amount of teasing and bullying. Also our oldest is named [name]Elsa[/name], which makes for a very Germanic/Swedish sounding match.
So, what do you think about [name]Oscar[/name]? A big risk? Or a solid choice?
I don’t think a child named [name]Oscar[/name] would get teased at all. It’s getting pretty popular these days and so by the time your [name]Oscar[/name] would be at school, it wouldn’t be all that unusual anyway.
I don’t see how [name]Oscar[/name] could be teased at all! It’s a lovely name, definitely go for it. And [name]Oscar[/name] works well with [name]Elsa[/name]. I’ve always considered it a very English name and I don’t believe either name is considered strongly [name]German[/name]/Scandinavian. Solid choice!
[name]Elsa[/name] & [name]Oscar[/name] sounds great together!! The only combination that may sounds more “together” is [name]Otto[/name]. [name]Elsa[/name] & [name]Otto[/name].
[name]Oscar[/name] isn’t a name I love, but there’s nothing wrong with it. I find it a little disconcerting that your partner refuses to consider anything else. Sounds a bit controlling.
My 3 year old is [name]Oscar[/name]. So far we have had nothing but positive remarks. People seem really pleasantly surprised and smile when they hear his name. Of course, it’s not really that uncommon, top 200.
Go for it! [name]Oscar[/name] is a good name. It doesn’t have a directly negative meaning, so I think any kind of teasing will pretty much be short-lived.
