Opinions and Suggestions

Having #2 in [name_u]June[/name_u] and it’s a girl. Husband and I are discussing names and of course we are not having the greatest time. His favorite name which he totally understands why we won’t be using it as it is the #1 name. You can view some of my more conservative favorite names in my signature.

Below are names we both like but I have some issue (probably illogical) with each. Looking to see your thoughts on the names and to hear whether my issues aren’t really issues. [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] would be front runners if we could use them. [name_m]Son[/name_m]'s name is [name_u]Owen[/name_u]

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]: I like it and so does he but it doesn’t feel like a front runner yet. I don’t think I have any real issues with this name it just doesn’t stand out yet.

[name_f]Claire[/name_f]: I like this name but my issue is it feels kinda plain to me. I also had a friend say, “fat girls are named [name_f]Claire[/name_f].” Obviously this statement is totally incorrect but it has bugged me ever since.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f]: Beautiful but maybe more popular than I want. I’m trying to not let popularity sway me but husband seems to only like popular names.

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]: Too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], which is in the top 8 or so of my state. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is in the top 100 in my state but that doesn’t bother me.

[name_u]Avery[/name_u]: Have liked this name since I was 16 but popularity bugs me.

[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]: I like this name and really like how it goes with [name_u]Owen[/name_u] but for some reason “Br” names appear lower class to me (totally illogical I know but for some reason that’s what pops into my head)

[name_f]Grace[/name_f]: Beautiful but popular

[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]: Ditto [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

Names we can’t use: [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], and a whole bunch more.

Thoughts on our names and any new suggestions that are maybe less popular names. All names in signature have been discussed. We don’t like frilly names and prefer less syllables, [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] are a stretch in syllable length for us. I’m even, gasp, trying to think of gender neutral names but seem more girly too me but this is not a must.

I have a hard time liking girl names but such an easy time with boy names. If this lady was a boy she would have most likely been [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] or any of the other boy names in my signature.

Thanks!

[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]

[name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] are beautiful names but I think they are rather plain in comparison to the rest of the names on your list. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are also super cute and sound great with [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. I think I prefer [name_f]Ella[/name_f] with [name_u]Owen[/name_u] so if you’re not bothered by its popularity [name_f]Ella[/name_f] gets my vote.

[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]

I adore [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] with [name_u]Owen[/name_u]! And [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] gives me the same vintage feel as [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but doesn’t sound as plain plus goes lovely with [name_u]Owen[/name_u].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this was helpful!

I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]. I have [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] on my own list and it first didn’t stand out for me too… until I found the combo I love.

Suggestions :
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - if you think [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is kinda plain, what about [name_f]Clara[/name_f]?
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]/Avelyn - a bit similar to [name_u]Avery[/name_u] but is not popular.

I find it kind of funny that you’re more worried about the national top names rather than the top names in your state. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is top 3 nationally, but I haven’t heard of a single one in my town yet. State top names are much more indicative of what you’ll be hearing around you and what names will be in your future child’s class. I’d worry more about those unless you plan on moving. From your list, I do like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. Maybe you’d like…

@oiseau
I might have worded something wrong but I do find state popularity more important than national.

You guys have some lovely suggestions for me to ponder and bring to the husband.
Pondering
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]

Other Suggestions like [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], etc… we can’t use.

I love your son’s name. [name_u]Owen[/name_u] has always been a favorite of mine.

From the new ones you are pondering I think that [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] fit well with [name_u]Owen[/name_u].

Suggestions
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]

I really like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], or [name_f]Isla[/name_f] with [name_u]Owen[/name_u].

[name_u]Casey[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] from your list. I think [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is classy and not boring. [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is also nice but I do understand that it has some of the feel of the “lyn” names because of the y. I think of the Vampire Weekend song which gives it a more modern vibe though. Other suggestions…

[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f]
[name_f]Leila[/name_f]/[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marin[/name_f]
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]

[name_u]Lisa[/name_u], [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] would make a nice sister for [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is too close in my opinion, but [name_f]Bree[/name_f] or [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] would better compliment his name instead of blend in like [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] does.

If you still have reservations for [name_f]Claire[/name_f], maybe [name_u]Blaire[/name_u] would work instead. If you like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] but think it’s too popular, [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is a little more uncommon and less frilly.
If [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is too common, [name_f]Audra[/name_f] is a nice choice that’s nearly unheard of.

Alternatives for names you can’t use:
[name_f]Analiese[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_u]Haley[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Harper[/name_u]

For a shorter version of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] try [name_u]Laine[/name_u].
And shorter than [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is [name_f]Esme[/name_f].
