I am thinking about naming my baby boy Lekh (pronounced like lake). What do you all think? I haven’t chosen a middle name yet. Thanks!
What are the origins of the name? My first thoughts are that it is too complicated. If it’s a heritage name, I might change my name.
I think you’re likely to encounter a lot of pronunciation issues unless it’s a known name where you are. I would have never known to pronounce it “lake.” I thought it was “leck,” which sounds like you’re saying lick with an accent. lol I like the name [name_u]Lake[/name_u]…I just like it spelled [name_u]Lake[/name_u] because it’s intuitive for me. However, it looks like Lekh has a Hindu/Sanskrit origin? If that’s the case and you live where that would be known or you have family heritage that connects it, I think it’s fine. [name_m]Just[/name_m] be prepared to explain pronunciation if you go anywhere it isn’t a known name. =]
I like the simplicity and look of the name, but I have to confess that I would naturally have pronounced it “leck” rather than “lake”. It’s not too complicated to correct people occasionally, though.
I’d be interested to know the origins of this one, too. It reminds me of the Polish name [name_m]Lech[/name_m], as in Wałęsa.
I think that you and Lekh will run into so many pronunciation issues
Aside from my first reaction of confusion as to its origin and pronunciation, I think its an magnificent name. It would pair well with a two- to three syllable middle that is more common. It’s highly unusual and will undoubtedly be mispronounced often, but it’s worth the trouble if it has significance to you.
I personally don’t Lekh it very much (sorry, I had to), think it will be a nightmare to keep having to explain pronunciation
I thought it was “leck” first as well, but the actual pronunciation sounds great, and it’s a nice-looking name too! If correcting people on pronunciation isn’t a big deal to you, then go for it!
I think it looks cool and if it has some cultural or familial association I would go for it but if you just sort of randomly like it I would just go with [name_u]Lake[/name_u] for [name_u]Lake[/name_u]. Since he wouldn’t ever have to explain it. If he were in a culture where that would require explanation.
I too thought it was pronounced Leck.
