[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,
I’ve been posting here a lot recently because I’m trying to figure out a name for baby #2, and we finally have a list! My DD is [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], and I’m not overly concerned with making the sibset “match”, but if you think there’s a name that is particularly good/bad with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], I’d love to know!
What are your thoughts/opinions/likes and dislikes for these names?
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is beautiful. My favorites are; [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Margo[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but we crossed it off of our short list because of how popular it is right now. If you don’t mind that, my vote is definitely for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f] - I’ve just never been a fan of the name, I don’t know why. It seems perfectly acceptable though. I don’t think it’s the best choice for a sister to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] but I do think it could work.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - I love the name [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. It has the sweet nickname of [name_u]Julie[/name_u], the connection to [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m], and a great feminine and strong feel to it. It fits well with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], I think.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] - I am a huge fan of [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. Very pretty in both look and sound, and I personally adore the nickname [name_f]Emi[/name_f].
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - Not a huge fan, but I like it more than [name_f]Natalia[/name_f]. Unlike most, I really like the nickname [name_f]Via[/name_f] for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], as I’m not too fond of any of the other options. I could see [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] as siblings.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - Nice nicknames of [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], has a soft, sweet feel to it. I think it works well with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Katerina[/name_f]/[name_f]Katrina[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], but I don’t like the way it sounds with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. And while I adore the name, I’ve never been able to imagine it on an actual person. As for [name_f]Katrina[/name_f], I have personal bad associations with it, and on top of that, there’s the hurricane.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be great classic siblings. I love the nickname potential of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and it’s a very strong, feminine name.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] - I could see [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Margo[/name_f] as siblings. [name_f]Margo[/name_f]'s not my top choice for you as I’ve started to find it a bit incomplete recently…
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I love the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f]! I think it’s sweet and strong and could fit a lot of personalities. It’s nice with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], too.
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f] - Funny, since I know siblings named [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] (I suppose that’s a hint that it’s a good way to go). I feel like I can’t really comment on the name [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] however, since it’s the name of a person very close to me and therefore I’m very biased towards it.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - This feels like it would be an unbalanced sibling to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. It feels very regal to me, whereas [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] gives me a more down-to-earth feeling. I know you’re not really concerned about having matching siblings, but this is one that just really stands out to me. Other than that, I’m rather neutral on [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f].
Out of the names on your list, the ones I like best with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] are: [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]. Great choices overall, and I hope I’ve helped a bit! Good luck!
This may or may not bother you, or you may even like it, or you may already know about it, but in case you didn’t, [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] come from the same root - they’re both feminizations of [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. Some people would consider that a no-go, while others would think it’s a cool thing for them to have in common.
I’m debating whether [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] / [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] is too similar to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] - both start with the K/hard C sound, both have the “n” at/near the end, there’s an R in both of them… it may not bother you, but just say them together out loud a bunch and see if they feel too similar.
Of the rest of your (lovely) list, I really love [name_f]Natalia[/name_f]! I like the lively-yet-smooth quality it has. I honestly like basically your whole list and if you’re not super concerned with “matchiness”, I am a fan of waiting until a baby is born to decide what to name him/her.
Thanks for the replies so far!
I pronounce DD’s name [name_u]Caro[/name_u]-line
The popularity is holding me back a little on [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]…same with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
I’m also debating [name_f]Margot[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Margo[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Margo[/name_f]; is one better than the others?
With [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], I love (in order)
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (as long as you’re cool with them both being feminizations of [name_m]Charles[/name_m])
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Margo[/name_f] works fine on its own, but [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is more of a feminine classic like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]- I think it is a nice name but not my favorite.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]- I love the name [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] sound great together.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]- I really like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] sound good.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]- I think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is a lovely name despite its popularity. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] work well too.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- I love the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], however I don’t like that [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are derived from the same name.
[name_f]Katerina[/name_f]/[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]- I think they are nice names but I don’t like how they sound with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]- [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] classic name. You could never go wrong with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] sound lovely.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]- I prefer the [name_f]Margot[/name_f] spelling. I like it. Although not my favorite with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]- I am not a huge fan of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] sound good together.
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]- I am not a huge fan of [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]. One of my least favorite from the list.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]- I love the name [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] sound nice together.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - so classic, with potential for cute nns like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - gorgeous, strong and can call her [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] for short.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] - I like it, but I ultimately prefer the [name_f]Margot[/name_f] version instead.
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]: I really like [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], even though it’s got a completely different feel to it (to me, anyway) than [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], & I think both names sound great together.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]: [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is one of my favorite girl’s names & it goes really well w/[name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]: I like this name as well, although not as much as some of the others. It doesn’t seem to flow as well w/[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] as some of the others do.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]: While [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is wildly popular, it sounds nice w/[name_f]Caroline[/name_f], & the nns of [name_u]Caro[/name_u] & [name_f]Liv[/name_f] sound really cute.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]: The fact that this comes from the same root as [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] would make it a no for me.
[name_f]Katerina[/name_f]/[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]: I’m not crazy about both names starting w/the same sound.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: Very classic & a great match for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]…I just like some of the others better.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]: I’ve never been a fan of any of the [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]-related names…they’re just NMS. But [name_f]Margo[/name_f] does sound nice w/[name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]: [name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] seem to come from two entirely different eras.
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]: This one’s just okay…
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]: I really like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] as well & think it goes well w/[name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]- I love [name_f]Natalia[/name_f]. I think it is sleek and beautiful and frilly. I love the Russian feel to it, but I also like it works internationally (like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] does). I think it goes pretty well with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but I’d give [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] a less frilly middle to balance it out. Like [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] [name_u]Clare[/name_u] or [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u].
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]- I like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. It has a pretty sound. But I don’t like the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] & [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] connection. The character killed it for me.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]- I like it. I think it goes great with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], the same timeless beauty. But I think she’s going to get her name spelled [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] a lot.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]- It is a good, safe choice. It is pretty, no doubt. But since I here it so often, it isn’t a wow. But fits great with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]- I would not use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] because [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] are both forms of [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. Most people wouldn’t know the connection, but it would bother me.
[name_f]Katerina[/name_f]/[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]- I feel like these are very different in style. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is more sunny and modern, where [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] is more… dated I guess. I know so many older Greek woman named [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], maybe that’s why. I don’t like [name_f]Katrina[/name_f].
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]- I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. She’s pretty and elegant and classic. Never goes out of style. I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are great together.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Margo[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Margo[/name_f] is a spunky choice that isn’t too weird or too safe. And [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] & [name_f]Margo[/name_f] are super spunky together. I think this one may be my favorite with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f].
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]- eh. I hear it so much on NB that I’m a little tired of it. Sounds fine with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. Not really a stunner.
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]- [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] sound great together. They’re both contemporary classics, so they just sound good together.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]- [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]IMO[/name_f], is too frilly with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. Too different.
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] is my favorite with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]!
