Due anytime with a baby boy (our first) and still don’t have a name! DH and I just can’t decide. I want honest opinions, I promise it won’t hurt my feelings. I’m not sure what my name style is, but what I do know is I don’t want a name on the top 10 baby name list. Appreciate any help! Thanks!
Here is the list we have so far:
[name]Anderson[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Drake[/name]- doubt we will use though, DH isn’t the biggest fan
[name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Porter[/name]
[name]Theo[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name] is my favorite name. I’d be naming my baby [name]Lincoln[/name], but my husband isn’t crazy about it. [name]Linc[/name] is a cool nn. [name]Lincoln[/name] has many positive associations.
I like [name]Anderson[/name] too. I like the nickname [name]Andy[/name].
[name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Beckett[/name] were also on my list, but they blend to easily with my last name. I like [name]Bennett[/name] best of the two.
[name]Porter[/name] - I think [name]Port[/name] wine and sea ports. Not my pick. Not crazy about [name]Drake[/name] or [name]Asher[/name] either.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Theo[/name], but would use [name]Theodore[/name] with [name]Theo[/name] as a nickname. I always think that when you use a nickname as a given name people assume it is a nickname and that your “real” name is something else.
[name]Anderson[/name] - one -son name I’m just not the hugest fan of. I love [name]Edison[/name], [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Hudson[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], [name]Addison[/name] (boy!), [name]Harrison[/name], etc., but [name]Anderson[/name] is just too [name]Anderson[/name] [name]Cooper[/name] for me. It’s a nice name, just not my thing, I suppose. I’ve never been crazy about [name]Andy[/name], either… And while [name]Anders[/name] is cool and intriguing, I feel like [name]Anderson[/name] nn [name]Anders[/name] is a bit of a mute point.
[name]Lincoln[/name] - absolutely adore! [name]Abraham[/name] [name]Lincoln[/name] is such a good namesake and it’s such a cool, funky surname choice. [name]Linc[/name]/[name]Link[/name] and [name]Cole[/name] are very cool nns, too.
[name]Bennett[/name] - I like [name]Bennett[/name] (and its meaning) a lot, although I do prefer [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Beckett[/name], personally.
[name]Drake[/name] - maybe as a MN? I think it works so well as a MN to most of the other names on your list!
[name]Beckett[/name] - obviously, love this! I have a lot of family ties to it, which is why it’s so appealing to me, but I love seeing others consider it too. It has a very smart, approachable vibe to me.
[name]Asher[/name] - love this, as well! It on my own short list, as I’m sure you saw in my signature. I really love it, and the nn [name]Ash[/name]. It is gaining popularity fairly quickly, but I don’t think it’ll ever be widespread enough that it’ll make it to the top ten.
[name]Porter[/name] - very smart and metropolitan, imo. I like it a lot, but I doubt I’d ever use it, personally.
[name]Theo[/name] - I like [name]Theodore[/name] a lot, but I’m not a fan of its nns, to be honest. I was a theology major my freshman year, and they called us the “theos”. I still see “theo” as something I was, not a name for a little boy, sorry. I know I’m alone in that, though, haha.
[name]Asher[/name] and [name]Lincoln[/name] are my favorites, but I really like [name]Beckett[/name] and [name]Bennett[/name], too.
[name]Anderson[/name] - Eh. Seems very uppity to me. NMS.
[name]Lincoln[/name] - NMS. Personal reasons why I wouldn’t use this one, but I also find it bland. Not a lot of heft to it.
[name]Bennett[/name] - Like this one. Classy but modern.
[name]Drake[/name]- doubt we will use though, DH isn’t the biggest fan - Eh. NMS. Too dramatic.
[name]Beckett[/name] - See [name]Anderson[/name]. Much prefer [name]Bennett[/name].
[name]Asher[/name] - Ok. I know three or four little Ashers, so I find this to be very common and I’m a little sick of it.
[name]Porter[/name] - Nice. Definitely more modern, but not as uppity as a lot of surname-as-first-name selections.
[name]Theo[/name] - Prefer [name]Theodore[/name]. [name]Theo[/name] is NMS. Simplistic and childish for a first name.
My favourite is definitely [name]Theo[/name], and I might be the only person on here who likes [name]Theo[/name] but not [name]Theodore[/name]! I’ve come across adult Theos and it suits them just fine. [name]Bennett[/name] is quite cool too, even for someone like me who doesn’t like surnames as first names! Good luck!
You have a lot of names I like on your list! I think that your style might lean to surnames being repurposed into given name (if that makes any sense). Maybe even “verb” names (what I call names that end in -er).
[name]Anderson[/name]: I like this one a lot. Gives you a good nn option of [name]Andy[/name].
[name]Lincoln[/name]: not a big fan. I find it quite dated. However I like the nn [name]Link[/name].
[name]Bennett[/name]: love this one- nn [name]Ben[/name]; unique name; and it’s got literary references, which I like.
[name]Drake[/name]: I agree with your husband, I’m not a big fan.
[name]Beckett[/name]: I like! It’s unique and interesting. There’s a good nn in [name]Beck[/name]. I think I prefer it to [name]Bennett[/name], although only marginally.
[name]Asher[/name]: I know someone with an [name]Asher[/name]. It’s a nice name, but not a personal favourite.
[name]Porter[/name]: I like this one as a surname, but I’m not sure it’s a great first name- I think of a butler.
[name]Theo[/name]: this one is tied with [name]Beckett[/name] for my favourite! I don’t think it needs to be only a nickname, either.
I like them all except [name]Porter[/name] and [name]Drake[/name]. I like [name]Bennett[/name], but I knew a Mr. [name]Bennett[/name] who was a band teacher I had in High School, so I’m on the edge of whether or not it makes a good first name…
[name]Asher[/name], [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] are my favorites! Though I’m a big fan of more “formal” given names, so I prefer [name]Theodore[/name], nn [name]Theo[/name]
Bennett [name_u]Anderson[/name_u], [name_u]Bennett[/name_u] [name_u]Asher[/name_u], or [name_u]Bennett[/name_u] [name_m]Drake[/name_m] make great combos.
Bennett and [name_u]Asher[/name_u] are my favorites. They seem the most timeless, yet fresh at the same time. The others sound more trendy to me.
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] would be my third choice, but I’d make it [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. Then it would be right up with the other ones!
