I have really been loving the name [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], thanks to Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u], because I think it’s absloutely gorgeous, and fits the vintage/floral trend, without being a sudden, overnight hit, like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], etc. I’ve often relegated her to the middle spot, but lately I’ve been wondering whether or not [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] could work as a first name. I know that when I asked about [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], I was told that it’s likely too cutesy to work (I’m still debating [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], to be honest - I absolutely adore it), but is [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] too [name_m]OTT[/name_m] to work? I know that it sounds silly as I have names like [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], and [name_f]Doris[/name_f] on my list, but to me, those names feel a bit less whimsical and a bit more serious than [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] or [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], which sound a bit more fairytale princess to me?
What are your thoughts on [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]? Is it usable as a first name? (I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] but am about to start a college program for Journalism and plan on living abroad in Europe in the future, if at all possible).
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] sounds much more name-like than [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f], plus it has [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] as nickname possibilities. Perfectly usable! [name_u]Love[/name_u] that it’s on-trend and yet still very uncommon. I wonder if Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] will bump it into the top 1000.
I think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] has enough in common with names such as [name_f]Mary[/name_f] to be usable, but is also very distinctive and unusual. And the nickname [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] is cute. If you like it, it’s a winner.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is a lovely southern belle name. Totally usable as a name due to the fact that the name does have history of being a name and names like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] are being used by new parents. Furthermore [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] has the nicknames [name_f]Mary[/name_f] & [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] which makes her feel grown up and makes her work. I really like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] : )
I think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is lovely. I also think because it has the accessible nn [name_f]Mari[/name_f] it can work in real life. I don’t think it is over the top I think it would be a really great choice!
I have a soft spot for floral names and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is definitely in my top ten. I love the nickname [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] - known but not popular. Like somebody else sais, fresher than [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. I think it’s way more usable as a first than [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] (though don’t get me wrong, I have a soft spot for [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f]). Like others have pointed out, it has really clear, easy nicknames that really help tone down the potential frilliness.
I really like [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], and as an added Canadiana bonus, you have the book “[name_u]Magic[/name_u] for [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]” by [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Maude[/name_f] [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m].
