I’m still favouring [name]Rin[/name] as a name - but somehow it just ‘feels’ incomplete as a name. it feels more like a nn than a name!
So, how do you feel about these two I just found:
Amarin - pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-ma-rin - It means ‘[name]Rain[/name]’.
Mirrin - pronounced Mir-rin - It means “cloud”. Slight concern here, our last name is [name]Miller[/name], does Mirrin [name]Miller[/name] work against each other? Or is it ‘ok’ as she will have a mn?
I’m not entirely clear on the pronunciation of either name. Are the first syllables of both names stressed? Is the first A in Amarin pronounced like beginning of [name]Amsterdam[/name] or more like the beginning of [name]August[/name]? Is Mirrin more like MEER-in or MUR-in? If I heard these names aloud, they would likely grow on me. I love the look of Amarin. Mirrin [name]Miller[/name] does clash to me; while I’m not clear on the sound, it just doesn’t look the best written out. Other [name]Rin[/name]-type names you may like are [name]Bryn[/name], [name]Wren[/name], and [name]Marin[/name].
I don’t like [name]Bryn[/name], [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Marin[/name]. =) [name]Wren[/name] doesn’t sound like [name]Rin[/name] at all either (I pronounce it [name]Ren[/name]).
Mir is pronounced more as [name]Minnie[/name] with an r and Amarin is pronounced like [name]Amalie[/name] or [name]Amelie[/name] (albeit with a in second place).
So it’s MI-rin and [name]AMA[/name]-rin.
Sorry, I’m not native English speaker so to be those pronunciations made sense.
I prefer Amarin. It’s a tad made up sounding but I know an [name]Amara[/name] and several [name]Maren[/name]'s and it does have a similar feel to [name]Amelie[/name] so I think you can get away with it.
Amarin [name]Miller[/name] is 100 times better than Mirrin [name]Miller[/name]
I wouldnt trust a site that doesnt lost a specific language. You can spot bad websites from a mile away by things like this, they will list “aboriginal” or “native american” or “african” under an umbrella term and not state what language it comes from.
Not afraid of being unique at all! If our sons had been girls they would have been either [name]Noa[/name]-[name]Maya[/name], [name]Noa[/name]-[name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Rinoa[/name]. We ended up naming our second son [name]Noah[/name], so [name]Rinoa[/name] isn’t really usable.
We did discuss [name]Aerin[/name], but I don’t really like the pronunciation. It’s one of those names that look great in writing, but I just don’t like when saying out loud.
[name]Syrin[/name] won’t do - it’s too close to a chemical in my native country.
[name]Perrin[/name] reminds me of [name]Lea[/name] & Perrins who make Worcestershire sauce.
[name]Catherine[/name] is the name of my sister in law so that won’t do either.
OH won’t go along with [name]Alizarin[/name] or [name]Varina[/name].
[name]Corinne[/name], I’m not sure about that one. I’ll have to mull it over a bit I think!
I’d use Rhine, [name]Rania[/name], [name]Rina[/name], [name]Reina[/name]/[name]Raine[/name]/[name]Regina[/name] or [name]Marine[/name]. Your name choices are cute but for my ear they don’t work with your last name. Maybe I just don’t pronounce them right.
Well, Mirrin makes me think of mirin (Japanese cooking wine.)
Amarin is interesting. It doesn’t strike me immediately, but I think that’s just because it’s unfamiliar. [name]Love[/name] that it means rain.
If you like Amarin, you COULD go all the way to [name]Tamarind[/name]. It’s a plant/spice, often used in [name]Indian[/name] cooking, deliciously sour and dark orange. “[name]TAM[/name]-ah-rind” (soft-I, as in [name]Rin[/name].)
I like Amarin much better than Mirrin with your last name - don’t forget, she will rarely be using the first name, and Mirrin [name]Miller[/name] is just too much [name]IMO[/name]. If you want the nickname [name]Rin[/name], there are lots of names to choose from -

I know there are tons! But my partner is extremely picky! It’s difficult getting him ‘along’ with names that work where we live (he has an Anime fetish! [name]Both[/name] our boys have names from animes, thankfully those names are English).
I checked on lots of other websites and most say Amarin is Australian/Aboriginal. [name]One[/name] said Arab.
Amarin is very close to a female name in my native country as well and I am trying to get a nod towards my own culture, but my partner doesn’t generally like names from my country! So, it’s very difficult. Amarin is also a bit of a “backwards” nod at my own sister, [name]Maria[/name] (get it?). Bit cheesy, I know, but she means loads to me!
Like, I’d never get him to agree to any of those names you mention there, Lilyflower. [name]Even[/name] though he likes Amarin, he doesn’t like Amarina.
If your husband tends to favor anime/manga based named, perhaps he might like [name]Karin[/name] (a name from the Chibi Vampire series, and occasionally pops up in other series as well). You could also spell it [name]Carin[/name] as well.
Saorin is another anime character though Saorin is used a nickname for Saori. I think it could work.
In another anime, there’s a character whose is named Isuzu but her nickname is ‘[name]Rin[/name],’ because ‘suzu’ translates to ‘small bell’ in Japanese, and ‘rin’ resembles the sound a small bell makes.
Isuzu (Fruits Basket :P) & Saorin doesn’t really work in our native language. [name]Marina[/name] we’ve talked about before, he turned it down immediately.
[name]Perrin[/name] has already been suggested, and it reminds me of Worcestershire sauce (made by [name]Lea[/name] & [name]Perrin[/name]'s).
I don’t really like the sound of [name]Marinell[/name] or [name]Rinna[/name].
[name]Karin[/name] is a normal name where I am from and it’s considered very dated.
I know a lovely baby named [name]Taryn[/name]/[name]Tarin[/name], and her parents call her “[name]Rin[/name]/Ryn” (not sure on spellings…would be personal preference). It’s pretty and unique. [name]Just[/name] a suggestion…
