Opinions on a name

We love the name [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] for a boy, our last name is Italian. This name is not in the top 1000. My concern is that [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] is very popular and these two names are so close. When you see the name [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] do you think Italian or something else?

Actually, it makes me think of that show Cake [name_m]Boss[/name_m] and then Italians. I think it could be misheard as [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] though, depending on where you are.

I’ve never met a [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] or a [name_m]Carlos[/name_m]. I think it’s really great! Strong, handsome, different but familiar. You may have some troubles with it but I would think all it would take is one correction for people to get it.

Thanks for the input.
I put a lot of thought into the name, it means strong man in Italian. I feel it’s not overused, it’s sophisticated. There is No connection to the show jersey shore :-P. Reminds me of monte-[name_m]Carlo[/name_m]. I just want to avoid the people asking is that a Mexican name or short for [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] (which is a nice Spanish name but not what we are going for).

Is [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] a recognizable Italian name to most people? Thanks

I’m not really a fan of [name_m]Carlo[/name_m], but love the idea of naming for your Italian heritage.

what about: [name_m]Valentino[/name_m], [name_m]Tino[/name_m] for short?

Thanks for the suggestion, [name_m]Valentino[/name_m] is nice but I feel like it belongs on the Liberace movie: Behind the candelabra  :?:
