I recently went to a visit a friend who had her baby (a boy named [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] after his maternal grandfather, very cute and sweet and tiny little man) and the little boy in the cubby/crib thing next to him was named Valek which has grown on me
I’ve never heard of it before I was wondering if anyone else had and what they thought of it?
I have friend [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] who’s in his 20s.
[name_m]Marcus[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is actually quite a lovely combo.
I know I think it’s great but the name I was talking about being unusual and one I’d never heard was Valek
Is it Polish or Russian? It’s lovely.
That’s what I was wondering, I think it sounds Russian or Polish or something like that but I’m not sure.
I don’t know the parents or anything, on the little cribs for the babies it has "Hello world! My name is _______ I was born on _______ at ______ and my parents are ________ (they’re all kind of cute little forms)
I think the parents names were maybe Peyla/Peya/[name_f]Pela[/name_f]/Payla I’m not positive on that and the fathers name I think was [name_m]Scott[/name_m] or [name_u]Sam[/name_u] or something beginning with an S
Valek is the only name that stuck with me off the card which I noticed because he was born on the same day as [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] and they were next to each other
Valek is really cool. I think I’ve heard it before but I honestly cannot remember. It gives off an Eastern European vibe to me.
Doing a quick Google search, [name_m]Vladimir[/name_m] Valek is a famous Czech composer and Valek seems like it might be a surname from the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] word ‘valens’.
I’m about to show off my nerdy side right now, but… all I can think of is “Dalek”. Any Whovians with me?
Oh Greyer, I thought about Dalek too. >.< Then I went “Wait, it’s probably val-ek not VAHL-ek” But if it’s Slovak, it would be VAHL-ek wouldn’t it.
Anyway, it’s sort of neat. All I could find was “Czech and Slovak (Válek): from a pet form of the personal name Valentin, from Latin Valentinus” which is here-- http://genealogy.familyeducation.com/surname-origin/valek#ixzz2gxm7omIq
And the same information a previous poster found. And that there’s apparently a young adult romance book (Which seems kind of interesting) named Poison Study with main characters Valek and Yelena.
AND there’s a weird movie called Vampires and the bad guy in there is a Master Vampire named Jan Valek. It’s a John Carpenter movie and sort of meh, I’ve seen it.
So there’s all the info I have on that name
PS – Marcus Alexander is lovely!
Yes, this Whovian had the same response. Although [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is a great name.
@Dantea: She is named [name_f]Yelena[/name_f] ^^
I knew I had heard the name before - Posion Study - and it’ really lovely! I hope little Valek will love his name.
Oops! Corrected. Off subject here, but I want to know cause it seems really interesting. Is it a good book and is it a romance? I don’t usually like romances but if it’s done well…
I think it’s a good teen book, but of course there will be love in it. I don’t think it’s to lovey dovey, and I strongly recommend it, if you need some mindless reading.
I thought of this too, almost straight away but I don’t watch [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who.
Is it too weird to kind of try and encourage baby [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] to make friends with baby Valek next to him cause they have awesome names? lol thanks guys for all the info, though I am glad I’m not the only one stumped by the name initially
