We had settled on a seemingly very solid boys option, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], but have now backed out! Another name that we both love is [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. We think that it sounds very strong, intelligent, and quite classic but a bit different. We wouldn’t use the nickname [name_m]Ben[/name_m] (would this be a problem?) as it is quite common, so I think we would stick with just [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m].
What are your thoughts on this name?
Thank you!
I like it, mainly for the reasons you’ve mentioned. It’s in the top 30 in the UK so I wouldn’t classify it as different in my mind. It’s also a nice name in its own right so no need to shorten it if you don’t want to. You may have to consider if it would bother you if others do, though.
It’s just ok to me. I think my issue is that it kind of rhymes with itself. And I am not a fan of [name_m]Ben[/name_m] as the NN and I feel like that will ultimately happen. However, it is not by any means a horrible name!
It’s a bit overused
I think it’s a classic and strong name. It is not trendy nor is it dated, which is great! I say, go for it!
I love [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. It’s timeless and handsome. However, I wouldn’t use it if you don’t like [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. Your son may decide he wants to be called [name_m]Ben[/name_m] one day, and you won’t be able to object.
I second southern.maple, your son will have a mind of his own. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is classic though, and I think nn [name_m]Benji[/name_m] is adorable.
I really like the name! Although, you can’t say you won’t use [name_m]Ben[/name_m], but what if would rather go by [name_m]Ben[/name_m]?
I absolutely love it. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is a classic, biblical name that it timeless and can’t go wrong. It also has so many nickname choices that in the event that you’d/he’d want to use one one day, he would have a bunch of options ([name_m]Ben[/name_m], [name_m]Benny[/name_m], [name_m]Benji[/name_m], Benjo, [name_m]Beno[/name_m], BJ…)
