I’ve been digging [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] lately. I feel like [name_f]Welcome[/name_f] to Nightvale is making it a bit more acceptable in some circles, but how do you think the general public will receive it? Still too grandpa-ish, or could it see the same revival as [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and [name_m]Archer[/name_m]?
Hmm I never really thought about [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] before… but I do really like it! I really like the feminisation [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] as well, so that is probably influencing my opinion. I’ve never seen the book/programme/film (?) that you are referring to, so my only associations are: an old man who lived in my village when I was a kid, and [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] (unfortunate, but fairly obscure by now).
However, I think it could definitely be ready for a comeback. It’s a sort of soft, refined name, similar to [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I think it would be quite a brave choice, because I think it definitely still has a certain amount of ‘grandpa’ baggage, but I for one would be charmed to meet a little [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]. It’s a very beautiful name.
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m] is one of my long-time favorites! I don’t think it’s an old-man name at all.
I love the name [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]. I think it is sensitive and strong. But I think it does carry around that grandfather feel that [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] have seemed to shed. I still love it but I keep it as a GP
Could be due for revival. Though I had heard it picked on as being a very camp name and pronounced with a lisp at the start. Definitely carries a more gentle air about it.
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m] is one of my favorites! I love that it’s classic but still unique.
