I’m changing my name, and [name]Cordelia[/name] has grown on me. I like the nickname [name]Cora[/name], not really [name]Lia[/name] or [name]Delia[/name], but nicknames are sort of given, not chosen anyway. I’m keeping [name]Rose[/name], but like [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Lyra[/name] in the middle too. Anyway, for a girl born in 1992, would [name]Cordelia[/name] be weird, long or too out there? Is it too flouncy?
I’m looking for a quirky “British” name, sophisticated, elegant, literary ties a huge bonus.
Also thinking of [name]Fiona[/name], and maybe [name]Charlotte[/name], nickname of [name]Lottie[/name]. Although I’m trying to avoid names with popularity similar to [name]Emily[/name]. So I’m a bit all over the place, actually!
It makes me think of Cordelia from Brideshead Revisited, Luckily she’s a good character In fact, I think that’s why the name grew on me, like you said. I think it would make a unique, but solid and classy, choice.
Thanks for your input, berries! For the record, I was initially against four syllable names that end in -ia. I have yet to read the novel Brideshead Revisited, but the film was gorgeous, and I like the [name]Buffy[/name] and [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables connections too!
I taught a student named [name]Cordelia[/name] who was born in 1990. She was bright, kind, generous, courteous – a dream student. Currently finishing up at university. No one ever called her a nn; everyone calls her [name]Cordelia[/name]. It’s a great name.
I like it too, especially with [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables connections, plus I have a [name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Berry[/name] in my family tree and that seems especially fitting for a name coming from this site!
I love [name]Cordelia[/name]. I would use the nickname [name]Rory[/name] ([name]Cordelia[/name]= [name]Cordy[/name]= [name]Cory[/name]= [name]Rory[/name]), but [name]Cora[/name] is adorable too. I think someone born in 1992 could carry it off very well. I would like to meet a [name]Cordelia[/name] anywhere near my age though.
[name]Hi[/name]. I posted yesterday in the sibling section. See below:
WE [name]LOVE[/name] THE NAME [name]CORDELIA[/name]!!! And now we have a problem…
Please help we are running out of time to name our second daughter.
[name]Cordelia[/name] will be 14 months when her sister is born. We love her name, it suits her perfectly, my husband and I both chose it, and the response we have had to it has been lovely. She has no middle name and so her initials are CK.
We have gone through thousands of baby names. Many we have liked we have turned down because of family connections or not working with [name]Cordelia[/name].
There are a few still we like but not 100% on - please help by giving your opinions and suggestions:
[name]Beatrix[/name] or [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name] or [name]Harrietta[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] (have concerns about initial FK)
[name]Matilda[/name] (rather popular in Australia)
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Jemima[/name]
I love [name]Cordelia[/name] too, and have also wondered if it’s too froofy or grand a name for this day and age. I have only ever known 2, one with the nn [name]Delia[/name], and the other was called [name]Cordy[/name]. [name]Both[/name] nicknames fit the girl they were attached to. And I think it’s lovely with [name]Jane[/name].
I’m not a fan to be honest. I track it because I really WANT to like it but I can’t get passed nn [name]Cordy[/name] (tatty old cords) or the UK older-lady chef [name]Delia[/name] [name]Smith[/name]. As a full name it’s a little upper crust for me although I think it’s becoming more popular!
I’m curious as to what your current name is and why you want to change it?
