Opinions on: Elizabeth, Isabella, and Jemima

Alright guys, when it comes to names I usually like names that are beautiful yet off of the beaten track, though every now and again a popular name will steal away my heart. Some of those names would be [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I have always loved the name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], it’s just jaw-dropping gorgeous, I love [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I (The Virgin [name_f]Queen[/name_f]), and my sister’s name is [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], and my grandmother is named [name_f]Betty[/name_f] which are variations to the name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. So to me [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is timelessly, classy, and honors family all in one whack. Though [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s variation of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is equally beautiful and I would [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to use it though I’m afraid that Twilight has made that name way too popular that [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] would eventually be one of those dated names that everyone will see that name and go “yeah, you must be one of those Twilight babies.”

Now [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is just a name I’ve been thinking about today. For me, [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] immediately brought images of pilgrims and pioneers of the early days of [name_u]America[/name_u]. Though I kept hearing the name, and found a real rare beauty in that name. I heard that the name [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is very stylish in [name_f]England[/name_f] right now, I also like the meaning of the name [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], and it has loads of great nicknames that you can use: [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], [name_f]Mima[/name_f] (My-mah), [name_u]Jemmy[/name_u], etc.

So what I want is your opinions on the names [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. Also, if you have any alternatives to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], I would love to hear them.

I love [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. I used to have a cat called [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] - we called her [name_u]Jem[/name_u] which I think is nice. I wish in a way I hadn’t used it on a cat, because now I can’t use it on a baby!

I also love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and it is a name we are considering for our baby girl due in [name_u]March[/name_u]. I prefer it to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], though [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is nice too.

I love [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]! I have met a few and they have all been gorgeous, lovely people  It also reminds me of [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] Puddleduck haha.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a favourite of mine, I would love to use it for a daughter.
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], I prefer [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].

Any of those 3 would make a lovely name for a daughter, you can’t go wrong with any

I was really worried about [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] being too tied to Twilight, it’s good to hear other’s opinion. I prefer [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], just because [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] just sounds more musical and romantic to me. I do like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] more to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] because of The Virgin [name_f]Queen[/name_f] association.

I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] myself. Not really a fan of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. It’s just too generic for me now. [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is starting to grow on me, and I think nn [name_u]Jemmy[/name_u] is really cute.

As a [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], I can strongly recommend my name  I personally love my name and how unusual and beautiful it is.
I really like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I think it’s beautiful and romantic.
I quite like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but it’s a little bland for me.

I don’t really like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - I think it is very old fashioned and very boring - in [name_f]England[/name_f] there are lots of people of all generations with this name, so to me it isn’t at all special. I went to school with about 6 of them! All using different variations to try and be different.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I think is beautiful and I have loved for years and always wanted to name a daughter this but for me it is just too popular now - I work at a school and see so many children with this name.

[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] - Makes me think of [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] Puddleduck, its ok but it is a very ‘posh’ name over here. I have heard of one little girl with this name before - her sister was called [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: [name_f]Adore[/name_f]. It’s a gorgeous classic. I’d definitely consider using [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for a future daughter.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]: It’s a beautiful name, but extremely overused. I’d avoid.

[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]: [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]. I think it’s adorable, but may be hard to use if you’re American. As an Australian, I’d use [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] in a heartbeat.

All three names are lovely.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is timeless and strong, and although it’s quite common it makes up for it with all its nicknames.

I think it’s unfair to credit [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]'s popularity with Twilight. It has been in the US Top 10 since 2004 (supposedly the “writer” used it because it was name she had picked if she had a daughter) and anyway the character is almost always called [name_f]Bella[/name_f], not [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. It’s an elegant classic with lots of strong associations ([name_f]Isabella[/name_f] I, [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] [name_u]Bird[/name_u], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] of [name_f]France[/name_f]) and again lots of nickname possibilities ([name_f]Ibby[/name_f] is my favourite).

[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is the more unusual of the three names, which can be an advantage. I love the nickname [name_u]Jem[/name_u].

I like all three. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a wonderful classic name. Beautiful with a variety of nick name options. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] has the same classic feel, but perhaps a bit more bold. I don’t immediately associate it with Twilight. And [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is one that’s fun to say, and has a spunky vibe.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - Classic, but I would definitely consider a funkier middle name to spice it up a bit.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - Not a fan, but I love the name [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. Immediately removes the Twilight association. Again, I would liven it up with a fun and unusual middle name.

[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] - There was a character in a popular TV series when I grew up called [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] so I could never use this as everyone from home would go ‘oh right, like Playschool’!

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is pretty and classic but feels somewhat boring too me (because I know A LOT). [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is gorgeous and romantic, but too popular for now. I used to dislike [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] but now I absolutely adore it.

I love the name Isabella, but it’s popularity just skyrocketed. If you look at it’s popularity charts you’ll see it barely being used to jumping up to the top 100 and eventually to the top 10’s place. I love the name Isabella so much though, and I do agree that it’s a classic. So torn on this name still though.

[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear from a real life [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]! I really think that this name is beautiful and is ripe for a good revival.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my favorite classic traditional girl’s name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] think of all of those cute nn’s! I do like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] but it is more recognizable as a trendy name right now.

Sorry for all the comments by me. For some that say that [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is too popular, in my experience I’ve only really met a handful of a few Elizabeths, most of the people I meet are named variations of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I’ve met loads of [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]'s, [name_f]Beth[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]'s, and a few [name_f]Betty[/name_f]'s… [name_m]Just[/name_m] only met a few people who were actually named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I realize that [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is more popular in other places, and that is something I am considering now.

I am glad to hear all these positive things about [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. I know if I use it my whole family is going to say something about Aunt [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] pancake syrup, but I really think that association will fade over time. I really think that [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] is a very beautiful name regardless of the pancake syrup association.

Haha, I totally forgot about [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] from playschool! That’s a bit of a blast from the past

I have no idea what that is, so thankfully I don’t also have that association to focus on.

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I love so much I used it as my unborn daughter’s first middle name ([name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]).

I also love many of its nicknames, especially [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Betsan[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f], etc.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] just bores me senseless. It is beautiful sounding, but somehow to me insipid. Maybe I have taught too many of them? (I’ve never read or seen Twilight, thankfully).

And [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f].

I’m so sick of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. Everywhere I turn it’s there. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] etc.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is nice, but I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] reminds me of the syrup company, Aunt [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. That being said, it’s my favourite of these three.
