Opinions on Epiphany

[name]Hi[/name],
What do you think of [name]Epiphany[/name]?
I am growing to like it, and I think it would be nice either as a middle or first for a girl born in winter. I think that it I pretty, but what do you think?
Thanks,
[name]Ellie[/name] xx

[name]Epiphany[/name] would be ridiculous on a person, whether male or female.

I think it’s a nicer and more original version of the very [name]Christian[/name]-influenced virtue names (you know, like [name]Chastity[/name], [name]Prudence[/name], [name]Mercy[/name] and [name]Charity[/name]). Though, like the other virtue names, it can give off a prudish, Colonial vibe. I also think it’s not quite as lovely sound-wise as other non-virtuous names. I am a fan of the virtue name [name]Verity[/name], however, and [name]Amity[/name] has a lovely ring.
Overall [name]Epiphany[/name] is a big name to saddle on a little girl, so I’d probably save it for the middle slot.

I also think it’s a bit ridiculous and over the top. I also think the -piph- syllable isn’t very attractive. There are so many other great unusual and unknown virtue names out there, such as the previously mentioned [name]Amity[/name].

not a huge fan and the meaning is too presumptuous. What if your daughter has a slow wit? No epiphanies for poor little epiphany!

What do epiphanies have to do with winter?

It’s a bit much to name your daughter ‘sudden realization.’ Was she really that surprising?

It would be fine as a middle name, but even with the religious significance it feels really corny as a first name.

I very briefly had [name]Epiphany[/name] on my list of middles for [name]Catherine[/name] if our son [name]Liam[/name] had been a girl. I’m not really sure why, considering that the baby wasn’t due anywhere near [name]Epiphany[/name] (although, as you can tell by [name]Liam[/name]'s middle name, I love the story of the [name]Magi[/name]) and word names aren’t usually my style, but hubby pretty much vetoed it the second I mentioned it. Probably for the best, because it lead me to discovering the stunning [name]Theophania[/name] – a name traditionally given to girls born on the feast day of [name]Epiphany[/name] – which I adore even more. [name]Epiphany[/name] is definitely a bold pick, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it in the middle, but I think [name]Theophania[/name] (or the less frilly, but still lovely Theophane) is ultimately more wearable as a name.

It would be okay for a middle name but I dislike it for a first name.

It’s fine in middle territory but hard to wear up front. [name]Tiffany[/name] came from this fact. [name]Love[/name] the suggestion of [name]Theophania[/name].

Honestly in my hometown most of the virtue names a la [name]Epiphany[/name], [name]Serenity[/name], [name]Charisma[/name], [name]Charity[/name], etc. are considered very trashy and so that’s my first reaction although that may be because I do not get the religious significance.

I have them occasionally. [name]Don[/name]'t care for it as a name.

There was a soap opera that I used to follow that had a character named [name]Epiphany[/name], and that was the first time that I heard the name. I recall that the character as being wise and witty, so I do have so positive impressions of it. That said, it is a very bold and loud name. I think the opportunity for [name]Pip[/name], [name]Pippy[/name], or [name]Annie[/name] is there if the child decides that she is not so bold. I like it best in the middle, or maybe something like [name]Marie[/name]-[name]Epiphany[/name], which gives it just a little something more.

Best of luck!

I agree with those who said as a middle name for a religious family it could work. It’s hard to imagine as a first name, at least in my circle–though I know those type of names are quite popular in some highly Catholic countries.

I can see why it’s appealing, the sound is very soft and flowing. I prefer similar-sounding [name]Symphony[/name] though for a name.

I know a mother who named her daughter [name]Epiphany[/name]! At first I thought it a bit odd, but it’s not so bad. I think it would work well in the middle name spot.

It does seem a bit over the top for my liking, but I don’t think its horrible pe se. Because it sounds like the end of “[name]Stephanie[/name]” it kind of seems usable to me. But more in a phonetic/ear pleasing kind of way.

Somehow the name/word itself I think is a bit over the top.

I’ve always thought that [name]Epiphany[/name] was really pretty as a name! I prefer it on a girl.
