I would love to hear honest thoughts and opinions on our final 3. I can’t quit obsessing over her name as my due date nears. Middle name could be [name_f]Christina[/name_f] or [name_f]Louise[/name_f] both honor names.
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] - this one has been on our list the longest we both love it. My only reservation is I think it may be mispronounced as [name_m]Julian[/name_m] a lot.
[name_u]Josie[/name_u]- we couldn’t agree on a long form for [name_u]Josie[/name_u] but we both love [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. My reservation here is it may be too nick namey.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]- I love the sound and uniqueness of this name. My husband likes it but it’s his least favorite of the three.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is my absolute favorite. It just flows off the tongue so beautifully. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is so pretty! My second fav would be [name_u]Josie[/name_u]… it’s an underrated name. I prefer nicknames for real names, so I think this works just fine. I think it holds well on its own! I am not crazy about [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]… it sounds too plain/unexciting to me.
Of the 3, I absolutely love [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. I knew a lovely [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. We mostly called her [name_f]Jill[/name_f]. I don’t envision you getting too many [name_m]Julian[/name_m] confusions. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is ok, but I agree that it sounds nick-namey to me. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is also beautiful and I imagine it would have some great nickname potential. The more I look at it and say it, the more I like it… but it being your DH’s least fav is a determining factor for me. I prefer [name_f]Louise[/name_f] of the two middle names.
I don’t think you will have any issues with [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]/[name_m]Julian[/name_m]. I don’t like [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is fine, but not liked by your DH. And I think you would have more spelling/pronunciation issues with [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] than with [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] bc it is more unique
I dont think [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] would be mispronounced as [name_m]Julian[/name_m]… I like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] but know quite a few in the 3-5 year old range so for me its too popular now! But a nice name!
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Josie[/name_u] but I do prefer it as a nickname to either [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Josette[/name_f] ( [name_f]Josette[/name_f] being my current favorite!)
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is lovely! I like it spelled Elowyn ( although ive been told that [name_u]WYN[/name_u] is a masculine ending) with the nickname [name_u]Wyn[/name_u] or [name_f]Wynnie[/name_f]
For middle names with each I would do [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Josette[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. I think it’s beautiful, unusual and works wonderfully with both of your potential middles.
[name_u]Josie[/name_u]. I don’t think it’s too nicknamey among all the Millies, Mollys, Maisies, Archies and Theos around at the moment. It’s not too popular either and feels classic because of the original long form [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. I’m not a fan of this at all, it feels far too dated for a modern baby and is quite an ugly, stilted name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. However, note that I’m in the UK and associations seem to be different in the US. I like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], so maybe this isn’t all that different.
I like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] the best. Very pretty!
I don’t think [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] will be pronounced like [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. I think they’re both well known enough to not be confused with each other. Plus I associate [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] as a girls name and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] as a boys name.
Thanks for the feedback. I do like the suggestion of [name_f]Josette[/name_f] for [name_u]Josie[/name_u] I’ll have to run that by Hubby. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear that most don’t think [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] will be confused with [name_m]Julian[/name_m].
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]: unique and refreshing and gorgeous… [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] both sound good!
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] is good but prefer [name_f]Josette[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] with this one.
I like [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] pronouced that way but [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] sounds dated… pass for me
I think that [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is the best MN option with all of your top 3. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] being my favorite.
I have a friend named [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] in her mid 20’s. She is super creative, witty, and laid-back. So I don’t associated this name at all with with being stiff or outdated. It’s a pretty name that works for a girl as well as a woman. I don’t think you should worry about pronunciation issues. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] on the other hand may have issues with both [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I also know a [name_u]Josie[/name_u] in her 20’s and feel this name doesn’t age as well as the others. Also I think you may have more pronunciation issue with this than [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. I’ve heard it [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-zee or [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-see and I hear people use both for the girl I know.
Either way I think they are all pretty names but I would rank them [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], then [name_u]Josie[/name_u].
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f]- I really like this name and the nn [name_f]Jill[/name_f]. I never once made any connection with [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] although now that you point it out they are very close. Still, I think it’s a well known name and people won’t be confused. This is my favorite pick of your three.
[name_u]Josie[/name_u]- I love this nickname, but that’s all it is to me. I can’t see it on an adult so I wouldn’t use it myself.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]- I love how this name sounds, but if it’s DH’s least favorite of your choices I’m not sure I’d push for it. If you bring a list with you to the hospital and you both think she looks like an [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] then great! If not, I think you’ll have be okay using another name.
After talking with my DH today we decided to drop [name_u]Josie[/name_u] from our list. I like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] on its own but really like a more formal name with a nn. So now we are down to [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. Seems like my DH is liking [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] more. Today he said “it’s hard to decide I love [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] but [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is so pretty” . We are going to try calling her [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] for the next couple of days and see how it feels. I have a c section scheduled for 1/14 so 2 more weeks. Eeeek so excited!!
I want her to have a relatively unique name. Both of these names are uncommon enough for us. [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is number 406 in my state. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is of course is not in the top 1000. I do wonder if [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] though will seem more popular because of all the [name_f]EL[/name_f] names or if it will shoot up in popularity.
So now we have:
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
Possible nn: [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
Possible nn: [name_f]Jill[/name_f], [name_f]Jilly[/name_f], JC
We may end up just waiting till we meet her to decide
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is my favourite, but it is clear to you guys that [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is the favourite. I don’t hear [name_m]Julian[/name_m] when I say [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and vice versa, and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]/[name_f]Louise[/name_f] is great.
I don’t think [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is too likely to be confused with [name_m]Julian[/name_m], no more so than just about any other name can be confused with another. I think you should go for it! It’s a lovely name and a great pick. I think the concerns with it are the least important.
