I’ve been thinking about this lots over the course of the day (when not enjoying watch my son’s massive [name]Christmas[/name] excitement!) and my husband has now vetoed [name]Josephine[/name] but may be coming back round to [name]Verity[/name]. I have to say I’m leaning towards [name]Verity[/name] at the moment as I feel it matches the strength and classic but rare (in the UK ) nature of [name]Elias[/name] plus has a strong ‘whole’ sound that I worry [name]Merida[/name] and [name]Vivia[/name] lack…
I’m now thinking:
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Coraline[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Madison[/name] - need to talk to hubby again about this; we both love [name]Madison[/name] but feel it doesn’t match [name]Elias[/name] as a first name . Am wondering if it may work as a MN especially with the M connection.
[name]Merida[/name] not completely out but I’m definitely veering back to [name]Verity[/name] for the reasons above.
Amydomsmom - I would love your extra Hebrew ideas as well if you can think of any, for middle name purposes - either with [name]Verity[/name] or to try and bring [name]Merida[/name] back to the table! Thank you
[name]Merida[/name] [name]Nell[/name] - Oh, [name]Merida[/name]. I love this name. I don’t care about the Brave connection because it’s a good one. I actually like [name]Nell[/name] with [name]Merida[/name], it sounds fine! What about [name]Merida[/name] [name]Isa[/name]? It means “strong-willed” and it goes along with the powerful, strong image.
[name]Vivia[/name] [name]Isis[/name] - Not a fan, [name]Vivia[/name] is too repetitive. I find those names too froofrooey.
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] - So beautiful. It’s so peaceful- “truth”. [name]Meredith[/name] is so adorable, it’s an undiscovered vintage classic!
I like all of your [name]Verity[/name] options except [name]Madison[/name], which seems completely mismatched and out of place with both [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Elias[/name].
Some biblical Hebrew choices:
[name]Keziah[/name] / [name]Cassia[/name] (less similar to [name]Elias[/name])
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Damaris[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Esther[/name] / [name]Hadassah[/name]
[name]Adira[/name]
[name]Elisheva[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name]
[name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Tirzah[/name]
Thank you so much [name]Blade[/name], I really like many names in your list, funnily enough we had been talking about [name]Cassia[/name] ourselves before I read your reply. I have rethought [name]Madison[/name] and agree with you that my instincts were correct and it is too jarring with both [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Elias[/name].
My husband is not convinced (yet?) by [name]Seraphine[/name] (or [name]Sephora[/name] which I also like a lot) or [name]Coraline[/name] and has been suggesting some interesting Italian or Italianate names as we have a connection with [name]Italy[/name] from our university days. So at the moment our list is:
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Sephora[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Coraline[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Aria[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Allegra[/name]
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Eliana[/name] (too close to [name]Eli[/name] but DH likes that!)
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Eliora[/name] (ditto but I do like it)
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Siena[/name] (spelt like the Italian town)
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Santina[/name]
I also thought of Verity Juliet which I really like but we have a family member (my side) with that name and my in laws can be very difficult so it may be a political error!
Definitely feeling [name]Verity[/name] is much more likely now although one [name]Merida[/name] name ([name]Merida[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name]) does still loiter in the back of my mind.
So we are still very much undecided but feeling like we are edging closer and closer! Thanks for continued great ideas…
I’ve moved away from [name]Romilly[/name] as despite its beauty I realised/remembered that I struggle a bit pronouncing R words - I don’t make the W sound but I do have to concentrate to say it really clearly and if tired it might come out more like Womilly!
I really like [name]Verity[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name] and [name]Verity[/name] [name]Coraline[/name]. I was busy with holiday festivites so I haven’t been on until now, but luckily [name]Blade[/name] gave you a great list! Here are a few more Hebrew names to consider. I’ll put a star next to the ones I like best with [name]Verity[/name]. =]
[name]Adara[/name]- “noble”
*[name]Adina[/name]- “delicate”
[name]Ari[/name]- “lion of god” (or [name]Ori[/name]- “my light”, but perhaps both of them are too short?)
*[name]Dalia[/name]- “gentle”
[name]Hannah[/name]- “grace”
*[name]Leora[/name]/[name]Liora[/name] - “light” (this might work since it’s not as close to [name]Elias[/name] as [name]Eliora[/name]?)
*[name]Sapphira[/name]- sapphire (sounds a bit similar to [name]Seraphine[/name]?)
[name]Sarai[/name]- princess
*[name]Shaina[/name]- beautiful
[name]Thirza[/name]- delightful
[name]Dania[/name], [name]Mara[/name], and [name]Sela[/name] don’t have quite as lovely meanings, but they do have a nice sound, so just in case. Good luck! =]
[name]Amy[/name] I’m so sorry I never replied to you and thanked you for your wonderful and incredibly unique suggestions - life and being exhausted now I’m in my third trimester have made me a lot less efficient these past few weeks! Out of your list I loved [name]Sarai[/name] and [name]Sapphira[/name] although there is something I am still yearning for in the ‘ine’ ending so they are not quite right for us… So we became more and more fixated on [name]Verity[/name] [name]Coraline[/name] with [name]Verity[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name] as a back up… And I put naming on the back burner as life took over a little!
However, in the last few days I have come back to trying to decide on a perfect name - because a very good friend has just named her daughter [name]Coralie[/name] as FN. [name]Even[/name] though it’s a variation and in a different position I feel we now can’t go ahead with [name]Coraline[/name] if the yellow bump turns pink as it takes away from both girls’ name uniqueness and am hoping they will be close friends as they grow up!
Sooooo I had a slight brainwave in the bath. As I liked [name]Juliet[/name] but didn’t feel I could use it PLUS am still hankering after an ‘ine’ ending, and enjoy Shakespearean connections (as long as not too tragic!) I have hit upon the name [name]Rosaline[/name]… She is the silent character and first love of [name]Romeo[/name] in [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name]…
What do people think therefore of [name]Verity[/name] [name]Rosaline[/name]? I think it has something classic and poetic about it, and matches [name]Elias[/name] [name]Michael[/name] well… I do love [name]Verity[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name] but it feels a little of a runner up prize to [name]Coraline[/name] now and I’m thinking the freshness (in terms of mine and DH’s thinking!) of [name]Rosaline[/name] is making me excited!
Would love thoughts on the above and apologies again for leaving a fab thread response unthanked for a few weeks.
I think [name]Verity[/name] [name]Rosaline[/name] is perfect.
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name] isn’t quite as nice since the eeee sound repeats itself (veritEEEE seraphEEEEn) as do the “era” sounds (vERAty sERAphine).
[name]Coraline[/name] works as well as [name]Rosaline[/name] phonetically, but [name]Rosaline[/name] is a much more romantic and rooted name. I really like it.
Oh thank you [name]Blade[/name], I value your opinion and your approval has made me more sure that this is a great name for us!!
I am getting excited as while I did love [name]Coraline[/name] (and also love the pretty name of [name]Coralie[/name]) there was something about it that felt like it didn’t quite seem me/us and the Shakespearean/romantic connection of [name]Rosaline[/name] seems more rooted to us (as well as to history) whereas I didn’t actually love the film [name]Coraline[/name] so that had been niggling a little…
Are we nearly there? I will go and discuss again with husband but he seemed excited when I talked to him just now and [name]Rosaline[/name] actually honours his name a little too which is an added nice touch (he is [name]Ross[/name])
Also [name]Blade[/name] your phonetic analysis of the similarities between [name]Verity[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name] is spot on and was what I think was bothering me without realising it! Thanks for enlightening me.
Very sweet of you to say, and with your husband being named [name]Ross[/name] I think it’s even more perfect. Seriously, one of the lovelier and more meaningful names I’ve seen on this site for a long time.
I just adore [name]Verity[/name] [name]Rosaline[/name]! I love your choice for a boy’s name too. My son’s name is [name]Ignacio[/name] and so I’m partial to [name]Inigo[/name]/Iñigo. Great choices!
Ahhh thank you [name]Blade[/name], that’s a great endorsement… We think the [name]Ross[/name] connection is lovely/subtle too and adds to the resonance of these two names. I’ve always loved DH’s name too.
Well, I think we have it. [name]Baby[/name] can now officially come pink or blue in two months’ time, looking forward to introducing our [name]Elias[/name] [name]Michael[/name] to either [name]Verity[/name] [name]Rosaline[/name] or [name]Inigo[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]. Thanks to all who have helped guide us towards this decision, this forum is very helpful and has really enhanced our thinking and decision-making!
[name]Verity[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] is BEAUTIFUL!! I love [name]Verity[/name]. It has a nice meaning, vintage charm, and I love V names! [name]Meredith[/name] is so underused but ready for revival and compliments [name]Verity[/name] so nicely.
