What do you think? Hubs and I are considering [name]Glenna[/name] for a future daughter. [name]Glen[/name] was my dad’s middle name. Would be a sister to [name]Cecilia[/name].
I like quite like [name]Glenna[/name], it has a vintage feel to it and is unexpected
Not a fan. Seems like a stretch. I like Gleena better (Glee-nah) assomething a bit more feminine.
But thats just my personal style
It’s pretty, but not as feminine as [name]Cecilia[/name]. It is nice to honor your father; although how would you feel, if you had been named after your grandfather?
I don’t like it, and I don’t think it goes well with [name]Cecilia[/name].
[name_f]Glenna[/name_f] is my name although I go by a nn of my middle name. Kids made fun of me all the time. However, it is a family name and I love it now that I’ve gotten older. Now that so many kids have unique names, I don’t think there will be any problem with name calling. Btw, my full name is [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]. I think my middle name makes my first more feminine.
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] is so beautiful and [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] doesn’t match it in style or femininity or charm.
Go for a beautiful vintage name that really makes one say that is gorgeous.
I like
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Alessandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Davina[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Fenella[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
rollo
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Glenna[/name_f]. I appreciate you wanting to honour a loved one but [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] just seems to lack any substance compared to [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. Have you considered [name_f]Glynis[/name_f]/[name_f]Glenys[/name_f], [name_f]Glenora[/name_f] or Glencora?
I think of [name_u]Glen[/name_u] as unisex, probably because of the fabulous [name_u]Glen[/name_u] Close.
[name_f]Glenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] work fine for me, but people seem to be very very concerned with having their children’s names match perfectly – understandable, but not something I apply myself to so rigorously.
There is also
[name_f]Glenda[/name_f] (yup, the good witch).
[name_f]Glenis[/name_f] / [name_f]Glenise[/name_f] (this ones growing on me, also could sub ‘y’ for ‘i’ there)
Glenette
[name_f]Glenesha[/name_f]
[name_f]Glenne[/name_f]
One thought is to use the basic feminized form of [name_u]Glen[/name_u], [name_f]Glenne[/name_f], and double barrel the name? [name_f]Viola[/name_f]-[name_f]Glenne[/name_f] or [name_u]Glen[/name_u]-[name_f]Juliette[/name_f]. Or what have you.
Women have been named after men for ages, so I wouldn’t worry about that.
[name_f]Galena[/name_f] would be a prettier option.
I love [name_f]Glenna[/name_f]. It sparkles like a rainy forest to me. Glenessa is another option.
Ooh, I quite like it.
Ehhh, it’s alright. Not a huge fan. I knew a girl in high school named [name_f]Glennia[/name_f]…always thought of [name_f]Glenda[/name_f] the good witch when I heard it…
I really like [name_f]Glenna[/name_f]. I don’t see the others’ comments about how it’s not as feminine as [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. I like pp’s idea of a sparkly rain forest. We considered [name_f]Glynis[/name_f] for our elder daughter - I think that could also honor a [name_u]Glen[/name_u]. I know one [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] who grew up going by [name_f]Genny[/name_f] (with a hard G), I think because of how a sibling pronounced it. It’s unexpected but familiar and to me invokes a lot of the same feelings as [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] much more than the other suggestions you’ve had so far! I use to care of a little elderly lady called [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] and I’ve liked that name ever since. I think it goes very well with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]! Very similar style to me.
I like [name_f]Glenna[/name_f]. I went to school with one, she was lovely! It seems like a name for a bright, grounded, warm girl. It could be paired with something simple or fancy, but I like it best next to something natural.
[name_f]Glenna[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Glenna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Glenna[/name_f] [name_f]Columbine[/name_f]
It is very different from [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]; C gives me an upperclass Victorian vibe, while G seems more quirky midcentury modern. But both names would serve the girls well as adults.
My current ASL teacher is named [name_f]Glenna[/name_f]. lol. I think it’s pretty.
Before I opened the thread, I thought that it still seemed dated but once I read the thread and repeated the name a few times, I can definitely see the appeal. [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] works well with a sister named [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. What I like is that [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] is unexpected as a sister while still going well with it.
I really like [name_f]Glenna[/name_f] - it’s sweet and unexpected nowadays. I’d love to meet a baby [name_f]Glenna[/name_f]. I think it would work well with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] as I think they both have an old=fashioned feel.
[name_f]Glenna[/name_f] is so mid century boring. My name is often mistaken for it or [name_f]Glenda[/name_f].
My name is [name_f]Glenys[/name_f]. I am not recommending my name though. It’s too different for most people. It is my understanding that it is a boring old lady name in the country of it’s origin, [name_m]Wales[/name_m].
I don’t think any “glen” names are feminine enough to go with sister [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
A comment about The Good Witch from The [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] - her name is [name_f]Glinda[/name_f].
It is odd how many people think it is [name_f]Glenda[/name_f].
