Opinions on Greta

Expecting my third baby in [name]January[/name]. My husband and I gave both of our kids our parents names as middle names, [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Robert[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]. We are having a girl this time, and are keeping the tradition going using the mn [name]Alden[/name]. We are having trouble with the first name, but recently agreed that we like [name]Greta[/name]. So … opinions on [name]Greta[/name] [name]Alden[/name]? Does it mix with [name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name]? Our last name is very common so most names fit.

I like [name]Greta[/name] a lot. It sounds pretty with [name]Alden[/name].

If [name]Margaret[/name] wasn’t [name]Eloise[/name]'s middle name, [name]Greta[/name] would sound fine with the sibset, but I think it’s kind of strange to name a second daughter a nickname/variation of the first daughter’s middle name.

This is so timely! I’ve been thinking about this name myself. I love [name]Greta[/name]. It’s an incredibly cute name that’s also incredibly strong – not many names pull that off. [name]Eloise[/name] is my all-time favorite, and I think [name]Greta[/name] goes beautifully.

I don’t like the name, but that’s probably the association I have with people of that name. I also agree that it would be weird, given your daughters middle name is [name]Margaret[/name]. I’d keep looking.

I have a 4 year old named [name]Greta[/name]…it is my all-time favorite girls name (which is why it was so hard to name daughters 2 and 3 – I couldn’t find a name I loved as much as [name]Greta[/name]). I love that it is strong yet sweet and feminine; uncommon yet recognizable and easy to spell/pronounce. We do get compliments on her name, but I also get plenty of blank stares. Not everyone loves it (“too harsh”, “sounds ugly”, “feels old”, “[name]German[/name] barmaid”, etc etc), but that doesn’t bother me. I could get nothing but negative reactions and I would still adore the name. So obviously I am biased, but I think it would be a good choice for you.

Yeah, I wouldn’t use [name]Greta[/name] because you named one daughter [name]Margaret[/name]. It’s just too close even though [name]Margaret[/name] is the middle name.

I can’t stand the name [name]Greta[/name]. [name]How[/name] about…

[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Melisande[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Constance[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]

my daughter is named [name]Greta[/name]. i absolutely love it and i get tons of compliments…that being said, i also agree that [name]Margaret[/name] and [name]Greta[/name] are basically the same name. if you are fine with that, then so be it.

[name]Greta[/name] is a beautiful name and I don’t think it matters at all that your other daughter has the middle name [name]Margaret[/name]. I actually think its kind of nice that they would have it in common.

I say go for it if you love it :), I like [name]Gretchen[/name] too.

I absolutely love [name]Greta[/name] but do agree that it would be odd to use since you have a [name]Margaret[/name].
