Looking for advice/opinions on our top two boy names. We want to use mn [name]Stephen[/name] after my partner’s father. We’ve got it narrowed down to two names (at least for now). [name]Welcome[/name] nameberry thoughts & opinions!
A little background: My heritage is Danish and Irish, my partner’s is Hawaiian and Jewish so we’d like to honor at least one of our heritages in some way. Meaning is important to me, not so important to my partner. We live in the Northeast and want something not overly popular/common but also not totally out there.
[name]Kai[/name] [name]Stephen[/name] - Has both Hawaiian and Scandinavian roots. [name]Love[/name] that it is a “nature name.” Only concern is that it might be a bit trendy.
[name]Isaac[/name] (nn [name]Ike[/name]) [name]Stephen[/name] - Hebrew, I love the meaning of laughter and adore [name]Ike[/name] as a nn but worry that it is pretty common. My partner said that she had several Isaacs in her school growing up (but personally I don’t know anyone named [name]Isaac[/name]).
Although I prefer [name]Isaac[/name] as a name, I think [name]Kai[/name] [name]Stephen[/name] flows better as a combo. [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Stephen[/name] is heavy on the s’s and the pronounced “kuh” sound at the end of [name]Isaac[/name] doesn’t sound good with [name]Stephen[/name]. [name]Kai[/name] would honor both of your heritages (Scandinavian and Hawaiian).
Thanks [name]Mischa[/name], that is a good point. What do you think of [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Fredrick[/name] (father-in-laws middle name vs. first name). We’d also be comfortable using that.
[name]Isaac[/name] has grown on me recently but in this case I much prefer [name]Kai[/name] [name]Stephen[/name]. I agree with Mishca aobut the s heaviness with [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Stephen[/name]. I think [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] is to heavy on the KUH sound ending both name. I like [name]Kai[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] though, if that is an option.
