This name was recently brought to my attention on another post and I’m totally guilty pleasuring on it!
Is it too out there?
A weird bird reference?
A reason it’s an old name?
Or does it work as a vintage sassy move to current day?
I love Lark too! Very sweet and sassy.
No, it has a very simple, name-like sound and other bird names are popular (Wren, Robin) so why not?
I think larks are quite a “standard” bird to be named after, if there is such a thing! Sweet, small, known for their pretty song. There’s the Alouette (“lark” in French) nursery rhyme connection too, although that’s pretty dark if you actually look at the lyrics!
Not quite sure what this question is asking but the similar Larkin dates from medieval times so it doesn’t seem super modern (or super ancient) to me.
Absolutely! Lark is on my watch list for sure. I feel it’s a natural successor to Wren, and very chirpy and fun to boot
I love [name_u]Lark[/name_u]! Don’t think it’s too out there. I love the bird reference. I wouldn’t call it an old name at all but I agree that it doesn’t feel overly modern either - I’d love to meet a [name_u]Lark[/name_u]!
lark is wonderfully quirky and sweet i think the bird meaning makes it nice and whimsical, and as previously mentioned, it reminds me of larkin, which is poetic and cool!
I should have explained by question better!
I just meant is there a reason it isn’t more popular and an “older name” because it isn’t a complete name or doesn’t stand on its own.
I think it’s super sweet!! It’s definitely not super common but also not unfamiliar. Larks are fairly commonly known birds so I think when people hear it they will associate with that, but I think that’s a really sweet connection (:
I really like the name Lark. I think it’s completely wearable and has beautiful imagery! Would you use it on a boy or girl?
I think [name_u]Lark[/name_u] works well as a name
[name_u]Lark[/name_u] is so sweet and fun. If [name_u]Wren[/name_u] can take off, I think [name_u]Lark[/name_u] could work
I like it best for a girl!
I prefer it on a girl as well, i like it
I adore it!
I don’t think it’s too out there
Yes, it’s a bird, but it isn’t weird
I didn’t know it was considered a ‘vintage’ name, feels pretty modern to me (but then I’m not American if that makes a difference)
I like [name_u]Lark[/name_u] for a male or a female. It’s a lovely nature name. I also like [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] for a boy.
I’ll be a different voice - I don’t like [name_u]Lark[/name_u]. I don’t like how sharp it sounds, and when I combine that with a bird… it makes me think of a bird with a sharp beak.
@flamingo Thanks for the honesty! The harshness was part of my questions!
@ac9nec5 me either! Until I read that it had been recorded in the US as a name since sometime in the 1800s, but never made the Social Security top 1000.
I absolutely love [name_u]Lark[/name_u]. For any gender. It’s so upbeat and lively. Someone mentioned “sharp” and that is what I love about it. It’s like a sharp, clear bird call on a bright spring morning. Crisp, bright, evocative.
I used to get my eyebrows done by a stunningly unconventionally beautiful girl named [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] who went by [name_u]Lark[/name_u]. She was so perfectly named, and it left quite an impression on me.
@drfox thanks so much! That’s exactly where it has me and I’m totally crushing on it! Last night I thought about [name_u]Lark[/name_u] the [name_u]Spark[/name_u] and what a fiesty little girl with that name would be
