Opinions on Martina

Earlier this year, another baby name site ([name_u]Baby[/name_u] Name [name_m]Wizard[/name_m]) posted a list of names that haven’t shifted much at all in popularity since baby name records were kept. One of the names included in the girls names list was [name_f]Martina[/name_f]. I find this an interesting name, because it’s not popular at all (it’s outside of the Top 1000), but I don’t know anyone who would ever raise an eyebrow at the mention of [name_f]Martina[/name_f]. And because it’s had a consistent popularity ranking, it doesn’t feel dated.

So, my question is: what do you think of [name_f]Martina[/name_f]? Boring, interesting, ugly, beautiful, or just neutral? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know someone with this name and has changed the way you think about this name? Let me know!

My nn is [name_f]Martina[/name_f], which is a pet variation of my middle name. I really like it and think it’s sophisticated and with a lot of personality. I wasn’t really fond of it at first, but a friend of mine made me a song on his guitar and I warmed up to it. Where I live it’s not dated at all.

The books The White Giraffe and Dolphin Song have a main character named [name_f]Martine[/name_f]. I also think of the singer [name_f]Martina[/name_f] McBride. I don’t think its dated at all, but I still think of Martini. However, I know a girl with the last name Marteeny, and no one really raises an eyebrow. I say, if you like it, go for it. It’s a fine name.
