So I’m looking to reorganise my shortlist of names and so I would like to get your honest opinions on these names. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of them
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]- I like this. I’ve got a friend called [name_f]Esther[/name_f], who wears it really well, so I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for it
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]- Okay, I’m a bit indifferent
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]- I prefer this to [name_f]Leona[/name_f]. I really like most -ora names, [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] included.
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u]! If you’re saying Row-enn-a
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]- Really like this one
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u]!
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u]!
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u]!
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]- I like it. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] classic name.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]- I’m not a fan. I just can’t grasp how to say it. I prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]- Not a fan. There’s just something about the sound I really dislike
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]- It’s okay, to me there’s something about the sound that’s just a bit off
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]- See [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- Okay, I’m not a huge fan of -ine endings in general
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]- Okay, there are other [name_m]Luc[/name_m]- names I like a lot more
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]- I really like this one. It’s my favourite [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] etc. spelling
You have an awesome girls list! And boys list too.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]- I don’t like it but it might be more personal experience than taste coloring my opinion.
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]- meh. Not my favorite, certainly nothing wrong with it.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]- ok. Getting warmer.
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]- I really like [name_f]Rowena[/name_f].
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u]. I like all or the pronunciations but personally love [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-uh best.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- like… but I do worry about small children being able to say this name correctly.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]- I love this name. I add it to my list and take it off again because I think people will only associate the name with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]… then add it again because who cares? At least she’s a cool character. I do love the name.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]- meh. It’s ok.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u], but I worry about [name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ella[/name_f] being so common.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]- Adorable.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]- This is ok, but not my favorite. [name_f]My[/name_f] response might be tepid based on personal experience, but this name feels a bit dated. She could be one of my mom’s friends.
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]- Cute. I like it.
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]- I think this makes a great middle name, though I like it in general.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u]. I love nicknames [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Posy[/name_f], and just plain [name_u]Jo[/name_u] too.
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]- (“Loose [name_m]Seal[/name_m]!”) Ok, Arrested Development jokes aside, I love this name.
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]- This is my favorite spelling/variation. That said, there are a lot of Isabels, Isabelles, and Isabellas out there.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - sweet; there’s a beautiful song by [name_m]Yann[/name_m] Tiersen called [name_f]Esther[/name_f] which puts the name on a whole new level of beauty for me
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] - nice but I prefer other [name_m]Leo[/name_m] names
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - beautiful but something bothers me about this name and I can’t quite put my finger on it, that’s why [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is on my short list instead
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] - I find the pronunciation to be unfortunately difficult/weird-sounding
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] - love it when pronounced Hell-eh-na
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - gorgeous on paper but the English pronunciation “butchers” the name a bit
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - gorgeous name with a great association
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] - reminds me of LOTR (I know the name is [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] but still)
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - great; a tad to serious for me but gorgeous nonetheless
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - lovely
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - nms
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f] - nms
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] - nice
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - not a huge fan as it sounds harsh to me
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - nice but I prefer other [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] names
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - sounds good to me
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]- feels a bit dated but it’s just not in my personal taste
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]- i know it’s not but it feels made up
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]- love this and the possible nickname ‘[name_f]Nora[/name_f]’
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]- i don’t like the ‘ween’ sound at the end
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]- i love [name_f]Helena[/name_f], also because of the [name_f]Helena[/name_f] Bonham [name_u]Carter[/name_u] association
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- can’t see it outside of Sleeping Beauty
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]- extremely pretty and has a great association
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]- not a huge fan
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]- I learned to love this name after reading [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Park[/name_m] by [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] Rowell so it’s grown on me
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]- not sure how to pronounce this
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]- I don’t like this because of personal reasons but it’s not my style
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]- sounds kind of nicknamey
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]- pretty but reminds me of the singer
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- love
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]- not my style
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]- like this better than [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]-A nice underused classic that seems to be getting a bit more play of late but would still make a surprising choice.
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]-A bit fusty
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]-The addition of those few letters takes it from antiquated to a much more modern feel.
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]-Something about the we sound in the middle puts me off.
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]-If pronounced [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-a it’s soft and gentle. If it’s Hel-lena a much less appealing name.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]-[name_u]Love[/name_u] this! I have a niece named this so I’m partial to it.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]-[name_m]Even[/name_m] before [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] when there were the two English character actresses, Badderley and Gingold who carried the name I thought it was cool and charming.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]-Pretty, I’m not very familiar with it which could be a strength if you are looking for a unique name.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]-Wonderful and timeless but becoming much more popular.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]-Very [name_m]French[/name_m], it would depend on your last name on whether this would work.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]-Not a fan
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]-Cute and spunky. It does sound more like a young girl’s name than an adult woman. [name_f]Romola[/name_f] might work better as a given with [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] as a nickname so she’d have a choice as she matured.
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]-I prefer the softer [name_f]Adela[/name_f] but [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is a solid choice.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]-Nice but on the verge of becoming overused especially as a middle name.
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]-Still feels dated
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]-[name_u]Love[/name_u] the spelling and like the name but right now so over-exposed.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - one of my favorite girl names
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] - love! so pretty
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] so much better
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] - eh, not a big fan
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] - I depends of the pronunciation (I like Huh-lay-nuh)
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - this is one of those names that I just personally don’t like
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - I’m a big [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan, so it is very tied to the character for me
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] - okay
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - I used to like this name a lot, but it seems to be very popular with Berries so now I find it boring
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - okay
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - I really like this name. Super cute and chic
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f] - okay
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] - so cute!
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - love, I like the nns [name_f]Josey[/name_f] and [name_f]Posey[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - okay
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - probably my favorite spelling, but I know sooo many [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]'s
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]: Stands out from your other picks as more streamlined and harder. I would describe [name_f]Esther[/name_f] as ugly-pretty, no frills, and strong.
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]: The long e immediately followed by the long o makes this feel awkward to me.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u]! I personally prefer the [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] spelling.
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]: I don’t like this name because of its second syllable. However, I do like [name_f]Romina[/name_f].
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]: Beautiful if pronounced huh-lay-nuh or huh-lee-nuh, but not a fan of hell-uh-nuh.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]: Pretty, I like the colorful imagery. [name_u]Love[/name_u] nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u].
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]: So strongly associated with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] that I think it needs to rest awhile. Not fond of its sound either.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]: Pretty but feels too fragile to me. I picture a damsel in distress. I think it needs a hard consonant.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]: Beautiful and classic.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]: very pretty. I worry about this name getting confused with [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] in non-[name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking countries.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]: Again too soft for my taste, plus I can’t overlook the fact that it rhymes with “molest.” For both reasons, I much prefer [name_f]Celestine[/name_f].
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]: feels awkward to me, like the syllables don’t belong together. I love [name_u]Romy[/name_u] though. Again I would go with [name_f]Romina[/name_f].
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]: have loved this name since I read [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f]. Like [name_f]Esther[/name_f] it is less frilly than your other favorites. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too tied to the singer?
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: very pretty. I don’t like any of its nn’s but [name_u]Josie[/name_u].
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]: I think of BB [name_m]King[/name_m]'s guitar and the SF Giants mascot. I prefer [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]: beautiful name. This spelling gives a classic feel. But amongst all the variations of [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/a, it’s too popular for my liking.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] & [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] (though I prefer [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]) (:. They’re all pretty good names, though I’m not a fan of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
