We’re currently trying for baby number two, I’m not pregnant yet, but I’ve already started looking at my list of potential baby names again. This is my list so far… Our son’s name is Hjörtur [name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m]. Hjörtur is an Icelandic name, and I’d like a coherent sibset, so most of these names are Icelandic and/or Scandinavian. You can comment on each name, just list the ones you like or rate them, anything you want. It’s a pretty long list, sorry about that!
I really like [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] (one of my absolute fave names), Otta, [name_f]Agata[/name_f], [name_f]Lotta[/name_f], [name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] and [name_m]Magnus[/name_m].
Sorry to have to ask, but how do you pronounce Hjörtur?
My favorites are probably [name_f]Agata[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f], Otta, [name_m]Baltasar[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], and Úlfur (my favorite! I love Hjörtur and Úlfur together!)
No problem! It’s pronounced CHYUR-TUUR (ch as in loch), if that makes sense… It’s hard to explain, because you don’t have similar sounds in English. But most people around here just say YUR-tur or even YOR-tur, and I can live with that (we don’t live in Iceland).
I like [name_f]Edda[/name_f], [name_f]Agata[/name_f], [name_f]Ebba[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Johanna[/name_f], Salka, [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m], [name_u]Jan[/name_u], [name_m]Anders[/name_m] and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], and I love [name_f]Karolina[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f], [name_f]Jakobina[/name_f], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], Baldur and Normann!
I really like:
Otta, [name_f]Edda[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f], [name_f]Hulda[/name_f], [name_f]Ebba[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Johanna[/name_f], and Salka
[name_m]Ragnar[/name_m], Hrafn, [name_m]Anders[/name_m], [name_m]Baltasar[/name_m], Atli, Pétur, Brandur, ”sgeir, and Úlfur
my favorites are probably [name_f]Johanna[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f], Salka, [name_f]Ebba[/name_f], [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m], Brandur, [name_m]Baltasar[/name_m], [name_m]Anders[/name_m], and Úlfur!
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] list! [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f], Vaka, [name_f]Agata[/name_f], [name_f]Ebba[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and Salka are my favourites for girls, and Vakur, Hrafn, Folki, Asgeir and Ulfur for boys. Since Hjörtur I believe means “deer”, it would be really special to go for another animal-related name – [name_f]Ebba[/name_f], Hrafn or Ulfur. I would personally avoid the ones with more violent meanings ([name_m]Ragnar[/name_m] and Brandur, for instance).
I love [name_f]Ebba[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], and [name_f]Lotta[/name_f] for a girl. For boys I like ”sgeir, Pétur, and [name_m]Anders[/name_m].
Although my favorite Icelandic girls name is Lóa.
@kew: Hjörtur does mean deer, and I had the same idea about an animal meaning sibset. For that reason, Hjörtur and Hrafn has been my dream sibset for years! I get what you’re saying about [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m] and Brandur, but personally the meaning wouldn’t stop me from using them. They’re fairly common names in Scandinavia/Iceland, and I don’t think their meaning is so bad that it makes them unusable. But I get what you mean.
@mrsyork7: Lóa isn’t really my taste, but it’s lovely name with a beautiful meaning.
