Hello! I am currently throwing around the name Maille. ([name]May[/name]-lee) The reason I like this name is because it is Irish in my name book. However, I really think that people will always be confused on how to pronounce the name if I leave the spelling as it is. So I thought spelling it Mailey would make it easier. The only problem is if I search the name under that spelling, it is no longer Irish but Hawaiian with a completely different meaning. I would like some advice from some of you, I’m not sure if I’m thinking too much into it! Thank you
I have seen this name but spelt maelie… i quick like it actually it stands out and its unique and that lil buit unusual… I had to look twice as i thought it was marnie or marlie but it wasnt and i was like woah i actually like this name… 
I think teaming it up with a mn liek grace/hope/faith also gives it a greater umph!! and i loves it ! xx
I’m pretty stern on keeping with traditional spellings. Mailey looks made up to me. I think more people will mistake it for [name]Miley[/name] more than anything else really.
I wouldn’t stray from the original if I were you. The Irish meaning is lovely.
I agree with stephanie413: keep the name you love with the traditional spelling! Gives it a richer history.

Like pp I’ve seen [name]Maelie[/name] before too which is more appealing than Mailey.
If you are worried about pronunciation, I find the spelling [name]Maelie[/name] to be much less tricky, and it’s very pretty as well. But Maille is lovely once you know how to say it.
I agree that [name]Maelie[/name] would be a better change. Mailey is okay, but then you still have the word mail in the name, which is a bit odd.
My first instinct would be to pronounce Maille as “male” like Braille–which I know is what you’re trying to avoid.
I would stick with Maille or [name]Maelie[/name]
I like it-I have also seen it spelled Mailie.

Go with the original spelling.
I love [name]Maelie[/name] but I’m not sure your name book is very right with the origin. Maille would end in an “ah” or “uh” sound if it was Irish and the vowels don’t really seem right to me.
I prefer the original spelling Maille. Mailey seems like a variation of [name]Miley[/name].
Maille can’t be Irish. 
That being said, I wouldn’t mess with the spelling.
I prefer [name]Maelie[/name], if you’re stuck on changing the spelling. As others have said, Mailey looks like [name]Miley[/name] gone wrong. Also, I’ve been loving the look of “ae” together. GL!
I might worry people would pron Maille the french way (my-EEEEE) because of the very popular French brand of mustard and pickles, Maille. Normally I dislike made up spellings but in this case, I think Maylie or [name]Maelie[/name] are both more intuitive.
