I was in a bit of a naming slump, so I thought I’d highlight a few guilty pleasures. I have no intention to give (most of) these names to actually human beings, but I’d love to get some thoughts on the combos.
Are there any names that you think are potentially usable? What combos might have a better flow? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a passionate hatred for any of the names I listed and just want to rant about it? I’m pretty open to brutal honesty.
[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] , [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Arizona[/name_f] and [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] are usable the rest aren’t. Sorry.
I saw [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Arizona[/name_f] is pretty and very usable. [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] is very handsome as well. I’m not too fond of the other names, personally, though [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] might be usable; I don’t like [name_f]Lark[/name_f] very much. [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] or [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] [name_f]Verity[/name_f] or [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] [name_f]Chastity[/name_f] maybe? You seem to like some virtue names.
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - absolutely gorgeous as a middle. I know 2 Moms who have used it and I love the feeling of the return of a more romantic era! I would use it as a first but dislike nns [name_u]Val[/name_u] & [name_f]Tine[/name_f]/a [name_f]Lark[/name_f] -I never knew until reading Nameberry quite a few years ago-now I’d just love to use it -if you don’t -i will steal it.! I deleted my [name_f]Lark[/name_f] combo -I hope! [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is forever gorgeous for me-I know some find it plain. [name_f]Arizona[/name_f]- as an Aussie-its not used so much near me but perfect in the US. [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]- This name sounds rather grand out of context of Greek but in context the male form Sophronie is normal.
I like the female form much better.
[name_u]Bliss[/name_u] -seems to fit well in combos but its nms.
[name_f]Josephina[/name_f] -great. Again there’s that touch of what I am calling ‘romanticism’- I was reading some older British birth announcements and it fits right in because of the ‘a’ ending.
[name_m]Saint[/name_m] -As a middle its usable if you have some connection.
Independence -I don’t think we are ready for.
All the men are usable and have a sense of dignity yet adventure.
but I don’t like ‘[name_u]Billy[/name_u]’ sorry
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f]: This one sounds lovely and perfectly usable! No complaints here! [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Arizona[/name_f]: This one is usable, but I don’t think they necessarily match stylistically. I’d expect a more indie/hipster name next to [name_f]Arizona[/name_f]. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] just falls flat by comparison. [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f] [name_u]Bliss[/name_u] “[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]”: Kind of frilly/flowery for my taste, but I do love [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]. Unfortunately though, I think it might be a hard name to wear for a modern girl. [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] [name_m]Saint[/name_m] “Phina”: [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but [name_m]Saint[/name_m] sounds pretentious. [name_m]Just[/name_m] go read everything that was said about [name_m]Kanye[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u]'s second child for reference. That, and some last names start with St., so all together it might sound like a first and a last name. [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] St.Lastname, instead of [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] [name_m]Saint[/name_m] Lastname. Independence “[name_f]Indie[/name_f]”: This is super cute, and I want so badly to say it’s usable, but it just seems like a really heavy name to live up to. I think [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] or just [name_f]Indie[/name_f] would be an easier name to wear.
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]: [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is a really heavy name to wear. [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m]: Since [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] is predominantly female, in the US at least, I could see this causing confusion. Overall though, I think the flow of this combo is good. [name_m]Eliezer[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]: Eliezar might have some pronunciation issues, but overall, I think this name is great. Maybe a little religious, but not in an in-your-face type of way. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Malachy[/name_m]: This one seems fine. [name_m]Willam[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] “[name_u]Billy[/name_u]”: I’m confused as to whether or not [name_m]Willam[/name_m] is a name on its own or if this is an accidental misspelling of [name_m]William[/name_m]. If it’s [name_m]Willam[/name_m], I could see that getting confused for [name_m]William[/name_m] often. Otherwise, this combo sounds just fine.
I’d say they’re all usable, except maybe:
[name_u]Ariel[/name_u] for a boy, I think the [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid might leave many only able to see it as a girls’ name, even though otherwise it’d be fine for a boy I think.
Independence: It is a bit much, maybe even for a middle. But I do like [name_f]Indie[/name_f] as a full name.
Also I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u]!
Thanks for all the responses!
Willam IS supposed to be William, but I am far too lazy to go back and fix it tonight.
I figured Saint would have some critics, but that’s actually one that I seriously consider using. I have a strong faith and Saint embodies the values I want my daughter to have. I was actually pretty upset when Kim and Kanye used it, because it’s a name that I think should be given reverently, and I don’t think the Kardashian-Wests know the meaning of the word.
The Little Mermaid is also a pain in the butt. Ariel has such a strong meaning and I think it’s incredibly handsome.
And I KNOW Independence isn’t usable, but don’t you kind of wish it was?
