Opinions on Osmosis-Too weird?

I’ve seen a little boy named Atom before, what about Osmosis nn [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] or called [name_m]Moses[/name_m]? Too weird? I really like the sound of it but feel like it may be a bit much for a child to carry!

I’ve taken too many science classes to see that as a name.

I immediately think of Osmosis [name_m]Jones[/name_m], the cartoon. I like the idea of it, honestly. But I agree that it seems like a bit much for a child to carry.

Yeah, too many biology courses for me. It seems too weird for an actual name.

I’m sorry in advance – I never ever say this, but I have to this time: Absolutely not.

What about [name_m]Cosimo[/name_m], [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m], [name_m]Casimir[/name_m] – all could be nn [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and most [name_m]Moses[/name_m] or [name_m]Mose[/name_m].

As a biology major - YES. I guess it sounds kinda cool… but I would never name a child that. What about [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]?

No way. All I can picture when I see the word osmosis are pictures from my high school science text books. I’d just go with [name_m]Moses[/name_m] if you like it as a nn.

I love the idea of a fictional character in a novel with this name. Not on a real child, though.

You should totally write a story with a protagonist named Osmosis (nickname [name_m]Moses[/name_m]). His parents could be biologists.

Atom is acceptable but Osmosis is way too out there for me.

Osmosis is not a name. Quite frankly, it’d be extremely silly.

After a lot of exam questions and past papers, in which I’ve had to describe the process of osmosis, I just can’t deal with it as a name. Atom’s kind of cool though, I like atoms.

I’m gonna say NO to Osmosis as a name for a real person.

Maybe I need to clarify, I’m not thinking of using it on a child-ever! Too close to [name_m]Pilot[/name_m] Inspektor or [name_f]Moxie[/name_f] Crimefighter in my opinion. I do like it for a fictional character though

Seems too weird to me because of all my biology classes.

Unfortunately I agree with Dylmar…

Unfortunately I agree with Dylmar… [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Otis[/name_m]?

Exactly…

Too much of a science term. It’s like naming your child Mitosis or Genetics. Use Oswin instead!

Yeah, no way. Not even for a character imo. Unfortunately, some parents seem to think that seeing a name in print automatically makes it a name for use on actual human beings and will look no further than that book. I know we can be a little more exotic with character names but I don’t see why they should be so vastly different from names [name_m]IRL[/name_m]. If I picked up a book and saw Osmosis written on the blurb, I’d put it straight back down again. Why not use [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]? It would be a fantastic alternative!

I agree that Osmosis is far out there but I’m not exactly convinced that it shouldn’t ever be used on a fictional character. I feel like if it fits the story (don’t have one in mind at the moment, just thinking about character names), that it could work. Maybe it’s the fact that major sellers have used names like Piscine (swimming pool in [name_m]French[/name_m]), [name_f]Katniss[/name_f] and [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] for character names that I’m not entirely convinced. Thank you everyone who has provided feedback  I like [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] though I’d probably only use [name_m]Otis[/name_m] in real life and [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m] for a character
