DH and I finally managed to sit down and combine our two boys lists into one with names we can both somewhat agree on. (Girls names are still in the works and taking a lot longer.) This is a very rough first draft, so we would love to see people’s opinions on these potential first names.
The names we came up with are:

They all fit our citeria but none of these completely jump out to us as the one yet. And since some of them are rather unique, we would love to get your opinions! At this point we’re open to any critique and suggestion, before we’ll finalize anything about it.

I adore [name_m]Callum[/name_m]. Unfortunately for me, I have a relative named [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and we’re nowhere near close enough for me to use it as an honour name for him, but also not so distant that it would be sort of a coincidence that I used it. So instead, I just thoroughly encourage others to use it! I think it’s an awesome, versatile name, unusual but easy enough to wear, and a nice, softer alternative to some of the really macho boy names you hear from time to time.
So [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is far and away my favourite on your list. I like [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] pretty well, too, and [name_u]Samar[/name_u] - somehow, despite it reminding me of both [name_f]Tamar[/name_f] and [name_m]Samir[/name_m], I’m liking it really well on its own. I like [name_m]Savian[/name_m] pretty well but the [name_m]Savion[/name_m] spelling is the one that looks “right” to me, so I’d use it instead.
I really like [name_u]Adagio[/name_u] but I’d only use it as a middle name because I first heard it as a musical term, and it signifies a really slow passage of music, so I’d feel weird using it as someone’s name.
Most of the rest are just kind of not my style, despite being perfectly nice names. The only ones I have particular concerns about are [name_m]Chance[/name_m] (which I know people have used as a name plenty of times, it just confuses the [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking part of my brain and my instinct is to say it in [name_m]French[/name_m] and then the English pronunciation doesn’t sound right to me) and [name_m]Valor[/name_m], which feels like too “big” a name conceptually for a child to live up to (I’m also generally not a fan of giving girls virtue names for the same reason).
If you’re looking for ways to narrow your list down, say each name out loud a few times with the baby’s surname and see how they sound - that may rule out a few. Also, if you intend to have more than one child, think about what names you could imagine giving to siblings; sometimes this can provide some clarity.
I agree with the masses - [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is my favorite from the list!
I also a fan of [name_u]Everett[/name_u] (it reminds me of another name that I love, [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]), [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], and [name_m]Chance[/name_m].
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_m]Chance[/name_m] are the only two I can get behind.
It’s important to worry more about you and your partner’s opinions. It looks like you have somewhat different taste than the majority on this community, so pay more attention to what you want.
My favourite is [name_u]Milan[/name_u], by a mile. It has positive cultural associations with the cool Italian city and the writer [name_u]Milan[/name_u] Kundera, it sounds strong and masculine, and it is unique without being weird or difficult to spell.
Lots of your other choices are nice-sounding but I just can’t picture them on real people: [name_u]Adagio[/name_u], [name_m]Avidan[/name_m], [name_u]Samar[/name_u], [name_m]Savian[/name_m], [name_m]Valor[/name_m]. These might make cool middles.
[name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_m]Chance[/name_m] and [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m] are nms, but I can at least imagine meeting someone with these names.
@oregano7 we followed your advice and after sleeping on it a night we just said the names out loud a few times (“what if we’d call him to breakfast by that name” and so on) and it has in fact ruled out a few names! DH noticed that [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] is very “country” and I’m having second thoughts about how ethnic [name_u]Samar[/name_u] sounds and how [name_m]Avidan[/name_m] might require spelling out to someone who doesn’t know the name.
@ketchupromeo of course in the end DH and I’s opinions are going to be most important, but it is nice to see what others like/dislike about the names. And maybe reading through these comments could inspire us about a name we hadn’t considered yet. We’re all about making informed decisions
