Opinions on our list?

[name]Hi[/name], I’ve been lurking a bit over the last year but I thought I’d introduce myself finally. My name is [name]Dorothy[/name] Sasso. I’m 28, recently married and TTC in probably two years. My husband and I keep talking about names though and I’m curious as to what all you experts out there think of our little list!

Some naming requirements. [name]Joseph[/name] will definitely be our son’s middle name. It’s the name of my maternal grandfather, paternal ggfather’s middle name, FIL’s middle name, [name]MIL[/name]'s uncle’s name, so it’s everywhere. DH doesn’t like [name]Joe[/name] or it would be the first name. He also doesn’t like names that might lend to initial nicknames (like no AJ, PJ, etc.).

My sister and I are the third generation of sisters named [name]Dorothy[/name] and [name]Margaret[/name]. We decided to use our middle names for our daughters’ middle names instead of carrying that on. My daughter will have her middle name ([name]Rose[/name]) and her daughter will have mine ([name]Anne[/name]). Only problem right now is that DH and I love the name [name]Claire[/name], which doesn’t go with [name]Rose[/name], so we are thinking of using [name]Margaret[/name] instead (also [name]MIL[/name]'s middle name, her mom’s name and my mom’s confirmation name). It’s important to me to honor my sister in some way, but it’s tricky because [name]Claire[/name] is our favorite girl name and right now we don’t know how many kids we’ll have (we plan on 2 or 3) or what their genders will be! DH wants to stop with two kids if we have one of each gender, so I want to honor my sister one way or another in case we only have one girl.

So with those things in mind, here are our names (oh and the last name is Sasso):

[name]William[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] (nn [name]Will[/name], there are a bunch of Wilhem’s, [name]Bill[/name]'s and [name]Billy[/name]'s in DH’s family)

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]

[name]Elsie[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

Other combinations we like (all family names in the middle):

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name] (one of my fav combinations, [name]Jacqueline[/name] is my mom’s middle name)
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Therese[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Louise[/name]

[name]Anna[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (love, love, love [name]Anna[/name] but worry about its popularity)
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

[name]Joseph[/name] [name]Martin[/name] (my fav, my mom lost a baby who would have had this name if he was a boy. DH doesn’t like it)
[name]Peter[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]David[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]

I’d love to hear what you all think out there. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] are my favorites from your list. They are all very pretty, though:)

Perhaps [name]Clara[/name] [name]Rose[/name] Sasso or [name]Clarice[/name] [name]Rose[/name] Sasso would work if you want [name]Rose[/name] for the mn.

@brooke79: I love [name]Liam[/name] too but DH does not. Which is why [name]Will[/name] ([name]William[/name]) is the main choice.

@unicorngal: Thanks for the suggestions. [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Clarice[/name] are pretty but not my favorites. We really love [name]Claire[/name] and don’t want to veer off of that for now, but thanks so much for the ideas!

[name]Welcome[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name], love your name!

love last name Sasso!

[name]William[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] (nn [name]Will[/name], there are a bunch of Wilhem’s, [name]Bill[/name]'s and [name]Billy[/name]'s in DH’s family) - [name]William[/name] is a fave of mine.

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] - so classic, beautiful! I think this is my fave on your list for girls!

[name]Elsie[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - pretty, but love [name]Claire[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] more.

Other combinations we like (all family names in the middle):

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name] (one of my fav combinations, [name]Jacqueline[/name] is my mom’s middle name) - so gorgeous
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] - love, too!
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name] - love
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Therese[/name] - ditto! What about [name]Claire[/name] [name]Tereza[/name]? It’s different.
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] - love! I have thought of this, too.
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name] - love the idea of it, but the sound of it isn’t working for me.
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Louise[/name] - don’t love as much as many of the others.

[name]Anna[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (love, love, love [name]Anna[/name] but worry about its popularity) - yeah, I’ve thought of this beauty many times!
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - this is so pretty, too.
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - lovely!
[name]Abigail[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - I think with your opulent taste, you might as well stay out of the top ten.
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - I believe [name]Amelia[/name] is headed for the top ten. Maybe [name]Audrey[/name] is headed there, too.
[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Rose[/name] - [name]Meredith[/name] is a fave of mine. I always wondered what her nn would be. [name]Don[/name]'t really like [name]Merry[/name]. Maybe Mere.

[name]Joseph[/name] [name]Martin[/name] (my fav, my mom lost a baby who would have had this name if he was a boy. DH doesn’t like it) - love it, it’s so woodsy and saintly.
[name]Peter[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - okay, you got me, [name]Peter[/name] is my son’s name. [name]Peter[/name] is my all-time favorite boy’s name!
[name]David[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - [name]David[/name] was very, very popular when I was young. But it is a beautiful name.
[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - yeah, I love [name]Daniel[/name], too!
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - I don’t know, I’m kind of tired of [name]Liam[/name].
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - a bit tired of [name]Alexander[/name], too.
[name]Nathan[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] - I like [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] better. [name]Love[/name] that extra syllable.

My favorites are:
[name]William[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
and
I would say [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (what a gorgeous name! [name]Elsie[/name] is a great nn too). Only problem is it really doesn’t work with your last name. Try saying [name]Elsa[/name] Sasso three times fast. Or even one time fast.
So in that case, I’d say say [name]Anna[/name], [name]Amelia[/name] or [name]Meredith[/name].

If you love [name]Anna[/name], I wouldn’t worry about it’s popularity. In all honestly almost all the names you are considering are pretty popular. Combining it with something other than [name]Rose[/name] would make it more distinctive ([name]Anna[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]?)

Here are some other ways to incorporate your sister’s name, just in case.

etc.

[name]William[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] (nn [name]Will[/name], there are a bunch of Wilhem’s, [name]Bill[/name]'s and [name]Billy[/name]'s in DH’s family): I think [name]William[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] Sasso is very handsome.

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]: I think [name]Claire[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is really pretty! (I love the [name]Clara[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] suggestion, too.)

[name]Elsie[/name] [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Rose[/name]: I think this is really pretty, but as someone pointed out (I can’t remember who!), it’s hard to say with Sasso.

Other combinations we like (all family names in the middle):

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name] (one of my fav combinations, [name]Jacqueline[/name] is my mom’s middle name): I think this is so, so pretty…

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]: I prefer your combo of [name]Claire[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name]…

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name]: I think it’s really pretty, but really popular…

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Therese[/name]: I still love [name]Claire[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name]! ([name]Therese[/name] was hard for me to say with Stasso…)

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]: Oh my gosh! I [name]LOVE[/name] this one!

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name]: I love [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Dorothy[/name], but I prefer your [name]Claire[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]/[name]Jacqueline[/name] combos…

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Louise[/name]: I love [name]Louise[/name] with [name]Claire[/name], but it’s hard for me to say with Stasso. (The S’s blend…)

[name]Anna[/name] [name]Rose[/name]: I think it’s pretty. (I think [name]Anna[/name] Stasso sounds a bit like [name]Anastasia[/name]…)

[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Rose[/name] : If popularity is an issue for you, you may want to avoid [name]Audrey[/name], which is #44 at the moment).

[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Rose[/name]: I think [name]Fiona[/name] is really pretty…

[name]Abigail[/name] [name]Rose[/name]: If popularity is an issue, you may want to avoid [name]Abigail[/name] (#8)

[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]: I love [name]Amelia[/name], too, but it’s getting pretty popular, at #68.

[name]Meredith[/name] [name]Rose[/name]: I love [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Rose[/name], but it’s hard for me to say with Stasso.

[name]Joseph[/name] [name]Martin[/name] (my fav, my mom lost a baby who would have had this name if he was a boy. DH doesn’t like it): I think this is lovely, and I’m sorry your husband doesn’t like it. :frowning:

[name]Peter[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]: I like it!

[name]David[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]: Ditto!

[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] : Ditto! (All of these names are fairly popular, which I think you said bothers you, though…)

[name]Liam[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]: I think it’s great!

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]: I like it!

[name]Nathan[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]: I really like this one, and think [name]Nathaniel[/name] Stasso would be handsome, too!

Because [name]Rose[/name] doesn’t work with Stasso as a first name, have you thought about other [name]Rose[/name] forms to honor your sister? For example, [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Jacqueline[/name] Stasso would honor both your sister and your mom, and I think [name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is lovely, too!

Some more names you may like with Stasso:

[name]Annabelle[/name] Stasso
[name]Caroline[/name] Stasso
[name]Cordelia[/name]/[name]Cora[/name] Stasso
[name]Eleanor[/name] Stasso
[name]Emmeline[/name] Stasso
[name]Genevieve[/name] Stasso (nn [name]Evie[/name])
[name]Helena[/name] Stasso
[name]Lydia[/name] Stasso
[name]Miranda[/name] Stasso
[name]Marielle[/name] Stasso
[name]Theodora[/name] Stasso (contains [name]Dorothea[/name], nn [name]Thea[/name])
[name]Vivienne[/name] Stasso

Good luck to you!

[name]Just[/name] a quick note, the last name is SASSO, not Stasso or Sasson.

These are great suggestions.

My DH would also like to add that he likes the name [name]Coraline[/name]. We just watched the movie last night and the author, [name]Neil[/name] Gaimon is one of our favorite writers so it has sentimental value. We had a Gaimon reading at our wedding!

He likes: [name]Coraline[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (although he has a small fear that someone might call her Cornrows!)

[name]Susan[/name], I think we must have the same taste in names (or a similar taste) and I loved your feedback. You made us both feel like our top choices were so validated! Thanks!!!

Great suggestions! My thing about popularity is funny. With boys, it doesn’t seem to matter as much to me, but I think because I had a fairly distinctive name for my age group, I like having a less popular name for a first name. I know [name]Claire[/name] is on the more popular side (66, I believe) but it’s just a name that DH and I fell in love with and he keeps referring to our future child as [name]Claire[/name], so it’s become a weird sort of reality to us if that makes sense.

I’m delighted to help you think about your name list, [name]Dorothy[/name]!

I’m really sorry for adding a t to your last name, [name]Dorothy[/name]! (Oopsies!) I think [name]Claire[/name] is really pretty, too. You know, I’m the same way about boys’ names and popularity, and I can’t figure out why! (I don’t know if I mentioned this earlier, but I really love your name.)

Best wishes to you!

Thanks, [name]Jill[/name]! I love my name too. It took a while, but now I appreciate its older feel and having my grandmother’s name!

No worries on the last name. It made DH and I laugh because no one ever gets our last name right! I just wanted to make sure that we had the right last name to go with the first names so it flowed correctly!

[name]Dorothy[/name] – so sorry about the last name mixup! I typed my reply pretty quickly and didn’t proofread it before posting! My apologies!

No worries at all! I just figured I should make sure everyone has it right because the last name really does effect the flow of the name as a whole!
