We’re due this [name_u]December[/name_u] with a little boy. We are having a hard time coming up with a name we agree on. The last name will be [name_m]Harmon[/name_m], and it is surprisingly hard to find names that sound well with it. A lot of names ending in “n” just don’t sound great (we have some on our list because they were impossible to avoid all together). The middle name will be [name_m]Rick[/name_m], after my dad who passed away (not [name_m]Richard[/name_m], his legal name was [name_m]Rick[/name_m]), which makes it harder still.
Here is what we have so far. We haven’t found anything that we [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]. Or even just like a lot. Help, please!
Names we both at least sort of like:
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] (my favorite, he is just okay with it)
[name_u]Owen[/name_u] (his favorite, I am just okay with it)
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u] (although we aren’t crazy about any of the long forms)
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (everyone else we know hates this name)
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (we can’t use this name, however)
Names I like that he doesn’t care for:
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
Names he likes that I don’t particularly care for:
[name_m]Garrett[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m] (N.O. NO)
Those names ending in -n seem to not be a good fit with your last name. I feel [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] works better than [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. I also feel multi-syllable first names are a must on account of middle name “[name_m]Rick[/name_m]”. You’ve got some time to find some common ground. I’ll suggest some other options:
[name]Nicholas Rick
Caleb Rick
Andrew Rick
Carter Rick
Bennett Rick[/name]
Would you consider a name with [name_m]Rick[/name_m] in it after your dad, like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]? [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] Blank [name_m]Harmon[/name_m], nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] or [name_m]Rick[/name_m], or Blank [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Harmon[/name_m]. Or are you 100% on [name_m]Rick[/name_m] as the middle?
I agree with sharwell on both accounts of avoiding an ‘n’ ending name, and needing a multi-syllable first name to proceed [name_m]Rick[/name_m]. Out of your list, I like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], and out of the other suggestions I like [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m], [name_m]Evander[/name_m], and [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. I’m suddenly at a loss for further suggestions, though.
I have to say I don’t think there is anything bad on your combined list! I like or love all of them!
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]- nice enough solid name, goes great with your last name
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]-I love the name [name_u]Owen[/name_u], always have
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u]- like it, maybe more on a girl though
[name_u]Max[/name_u]- [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_u]Max[/name_u] is wonderful! A perfect name…I don’t know about the [name_m]Rick[/name_m] following it though
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]- [name_f]One[/name_f] of my favorites
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]- another love of mine
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]- is such a good name!
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] & [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] are both very nice.
The one syllable [name_m]Rick[/name_m] does seem to throw some of these names off, but honestly, how often is the full name said? I would focus on your favorite and what works well with [name_m]Harmon[/name_m]. I love that you are honoring with a middle name, I hate when people just choose some crazy middle name because it looks nice. It is a place for honoring a loved one.
I would avoid two-syllable names ending in “n” (bye bye [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m]), one-syllable names which are too choppy with [name_m]Rick[/name_m] (so long [name_u]Max[/name_u]) and names ending in “r” or “h” which blend together and don’t flow well with your mn or surname (Oliverrick, Jonahrickharmon). Of course, the flow of the fn and surname trumps the fn and mn every time because we use them the most in real life. Here are some suggestions.
From your list i think [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_m]Rick[/name_m] [name_m]Harmon[/name_m] flows the best.
As another suggestion however, [name_u]Evan[/name_u] is a great name but doesn’t flow that well - but what about [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Rick[/name_m] [name_m]Harmon[/name_m], nn [name_u]Evan[/name_u]?
I think [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_m]Rick[/name_m] sounds best with you ln. Names ending in R run into [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and I don’t care for names ending in n with your last name.
Names we both at least sort of like:
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] - [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]! [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] is very handsome.
[name_u]Owen[/name_u] - I think it’s cute.
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] - I like it, and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the nickname [name_u]Cam[/name_u].
[name_u]Max[/name_u] - I think it’s okay, much better than the longer forms but sort of feels incomplete
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - I think it’s so charming and sweet, and it would age well
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] - Handsome and has a nice feel
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] - Really like this! Lots of cute nicknames
Names I like that he doesn’t care for:
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] - I like it, but would never use it
[name_m]Ian[/name_m] - Super short with [name_m]Rick[/name_m], but not a bad name. I prefer [name_m]Ivan[/name_m].
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] - [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is solid and handsome, but not with [name_m]Rick[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f]!!
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - twilight shattered any hope this name had for my list. [name_m]Casper[/name_m] is cool though
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this!! [name_m]Eli[/name_m] is a cute nickname.
Names he likes that I don’t particularly care for:
[name_m]Garrett[/name_m] - nice but not my style
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] - I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] it! Handsome. Great for a little boy or a grown man.
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m] - slightly geeky but nice
[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m] - I agree with you, this is pretty bad. [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] is okay, [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m] is awful.
