Opinions on our short list please!!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I am really hoping for some feedback on the boy names currently on our ‘shortlist’, I’m seven months pregnant and we still don’t have a name nailed down! Me and hubby are having a tough time with finding a boys name, these ones are ones that we like, but none of them we absolutely love. The middle name will be [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], which is a family name, and our last name is two syllables and starts with ‘a’. I would really appreciate some honest feedback on these names, if they have any connotations for you etc, and more suggestions are welcome too!!!

Names on the list right now are:

  • [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] ( or [name_u]Rowen[/name_u] ). My concern with this one is whether the name is seen as a ‘girls’ name.
  • [name_m]Dante[/name_m]
  • [name_u]Remy[/name_u]. I can’t decide if this name sounds too ’ nicknamey’, it is a proper name but still feels to me like a nickname due to the ‘y’ at the end.
  • [name_m]Luther[/name_m]

We are looking for something definitely unique, but not too weird! I tend to like softer sounding boys names. Anyways, please help! I would like some opinions on these, even if you hate them haha!

I really like [name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] or [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m].

My favorite on your list is [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], although I prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u]. I adore [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]/[name_u]Roan[/name_u] for a boy, love it for a girl. I have never met or known a male or female [name_u]Rowen[/name_u]/[name_u]Roan[/name_u]. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]/[name_u]Roan[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is very handsome. I like [name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] and [name_u]Remy[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]. I think [name_u]Remy[/name_u] can stand on it’s own. I am not fond of [name_m]Luther[/name_m].

First off congratulations on your baby. It can be very hard to choose a proper first name for your little one. I like your list. Though I favor [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] A is lovely and since his middle is no where near feminine its clearly a masculine name. [name_m]Luther[/name_m] is a pets name of ours, we’ve had him a long while and he receives many compliments on his name but to me it my pet, I had another pet years back called [name_m]Dante[/name_m], so I’m useless for those… But [name_u]Remy[/name_u] … I think or [name_m]Remington[/name_m] [name_u]Steele[/name_u] and then that feels feminine to me :-/ [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], Is my pick for you. I adore it.

[name_m]Dante[/name_m] and [name_m]Luther[/name_m] are my favorites. [name_u]Remy[/name_u] seems too nicknamey or feminine for me, but as a nickname for [name_m]Remington[/name_m], that would be good.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] I prefer on a girl, but I find [name_m]Roman[/name_m] handsome.

[name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] sounds a bit better than [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m].

I suggest: [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_m]Nigel[/name_m], [name_m]Damian[/name_m], [name_m]Donovan[/name_m], [name_u]Corbin[/name_u], [name_m]Colton[/name_m], and [name_u]Ashton[/name_u].
I really like [name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m].

Interesting. When I think [name_m]Remington[/name_m] [name_u]Steele[/name_u], I think [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Brosnan[/name_m], definitely not feminine.

I like softer names too, so I’m with you there. I love both [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Remy[/name_u], and I think they’re perfectly usable on a boy. I would absolutely go with [name_u]Remy[/name_u] as a stand-alone, as opposed to [name_m]Remington[/name_m], which is much too elaborate and hypermasculine for my taste. I think it can totally work as a full name. I’m not a big fan of [name_m]Dante[/name_m] or [name_m]Luther[/name_m], sorry.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] or [name_u]Remy[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] are both gorgeous.

Suggestions: [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], [name_u]Tristan[/name_u].

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] @rark,

Excited for you! Congratulations!

[name_m]Dante[/name_m] is very handsome. In the United States, it is most frequently used among African Americans.

[name_m]Luther[/name_m] – brimming with wholesome mischief – is my favorite prospect on your list. It makes me smile.

[name_u]Remy[/name_u] is dashing. I love it as a nickname for the equally debonair [name_m]Remington[/name_m].

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is strong and spunky, but for me has a stronger feminine than masculine association.

I really like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] and [name_u]Remy[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]. I agree with @lovemysweeties and prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u] for a boy. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it is pronounced the same way, is says boy to me. I think [name_u]Remy[/name_u] stands on it’s own just fine although I slightly prefer [name_m]Remington[/name_m] with [name_u]Remy[/name_u] as a nn.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is definitely all boy to me, and I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]! [name_u]Remy[/name_u] is also fantastic, but I understand why it might seem slightly insubstantial, and the pronunciation always trips me somewhat. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Rory[/name_u] or [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]? [name_m]Luther[/name_m], to me, sounds a bit lispy with [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], as the ‘th’ and ‘f’ sounds echo each other a bit, but that is basically nothing to worry about. [name_m]Dante[/name_m] is not my style as a first name, as I always feel that there can only ever be one [name_m]Dante[/name_m], rather like the names [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] or [name_u]Austen[/name_u]. Have you considered the very handsome combination [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] [name_m]Dante[/name_m]?

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]! I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is brilliant, too–I’ve been hunting for a [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] combo myself, and all I’ve been able to come up with is [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. I might just have to add [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Philipp[/name_m] to the mix! I don’t think it’s too feminine–while it is rising on the charts for the girls, it ranks 295 for the boys, and 400-something for the girls, if I’m remembering correctly. Still more popular for the boys, and I’d love to see it stay that way!
[name_m]Dante[/name_m] - I like it a lot, but here it tends to really get butchered. I don’t generally see a lot of people choose it for the writer, or the history of the name, and it usually gets a lot of horrendous misspellings ([name_m]Dontae[/name_m], [name_m]Dantay[/name_m], [name_m]Donte[/name_m], Dawntae, etc.). Seeing straight-up [name_m]Dante[/name_m] is really nice! And [name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is super handsome.
[name_u]Remy[/name_u] - I don’t find it nicknamey at all, but I’m not a huge fan, unfortunately. [name_u]Remy[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is super handsome; I want to like it. I just like [name_u]Rory[/name_u] much more than [name_u]Remy[/name_u].
[name_m]Luther[/name_m] - I like it okay. I like the association to [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_m]Luther[/name_m] and [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m], [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. I think it’s just a bit too vintagey in feel for me right now. [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is really nice, though.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] is definitely my favorite! I think [name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] and [name_u]Remy[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] are great, too, and I think I would rank them in the order you have them in, actually. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Dante[/name_m], [name_u]Remy[/name_u], and [name_m]Luther[/name_m].

Good luck!

I like [name_u]Remy[/name_u] the best! Second choice would be [name_m]Dante[/name_m]. I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (for both genders) but personally only know girls with the name. [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] seems more masculine to me.

I love [name_m]Dante[/name_m] and especially [name_u]Remy[/name_u]!

Thanks for the awesome feedback everyone! It really helps especially since we aren’t sharing the names with anyone beforehand. Haha I was sort of hoping that everyone would hate one of the names on my list so I could eliminate it, haha that doesn’t seem to be the case though. I think right now my hubby’s top pick is [name_m]Dante[/name_m], I’m leaning most towards [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] though.
Thanks!
