Opinions on our top 3 names please

Hello berries!

I’m super excited to say that we’re going to be starting TTC during my next cycle, I’ve been wanting to for several years now, and the time is finally right  (sorry I needed to share my excitement somewhere as we’re not sharing with family and friends obviously)

This of course brings me to names! We have two kids already; [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and we’re pretty settled on [name_u]River[/name_u] if we have another boy ([name_u]River[/name_u] is also in the running for a girl too)
Anyway, our current top 3 for another daughter are [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f]

[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] - [name_u]Toby[/name_u] would probably have been [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] had he been a girl, for some reason we just didn’t really consider if for [name_f]Athena[/name_f], but we recently rediscovered it and fell for it all over again! I’ve always had such a soft spot for -O ending names and would absolutely love to have one of my babies have one, and the nickname [name_u]Indie[/name_u] is absolutely adorable!

[name_u]River[/name_u] - this name has actually come from [name_u]Toby[/name_u], I was playing sims during lockdown and ended up having twin boys and only had a boy and a girls name picked out, I asked the room at large what I should call the second one and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] piped up with [name_u]River[/name_u]! A name I’ve never really talked about, and there aren’t any children at his school with the name, the only place I can think he got it from is the song that I sing to him and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] at bedtime which is known as “the river song” to them (it’s actually Walk me Over the [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] from Heartland). He’s adamant that if he gets a little brother that he’s called [name_u]River[/name_u] and both hubby and I love it hence if we have a boy he’ll be [name_u]River[/name_u]. We really like it for a girl too, and if we don’t use it for a first name it’ll definitely be a middle name.

[name_f]Valencia[/name_f] - long time love of mine, I’ve just been completely in love with the sound of it since I first found it. I was kinda put off it by my mum’s reaction to it which is why we didn’t seriously consider it with [name_f]Athena[/name_f] (which I don’t regret because she is definitely an [name_f]Athena[/name_f]!), but that kinda feels like a flimsy reason not to use a name I love so much now. I’m not hugely fond of [name_u]Val[/name_u] as a nickname and would probably use Lencie (len-see), [name_f]Valley[/name_f] or [name_f]Viva[/name_f], possibly even [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (though I know it’s a stretch), which ever one came most naturally.

We love all three of these names so much, and this will definitely be our last baby, how to choose??!
(So sorry this has ended up being such a novel!)

Anyway, what are your thoughts on these names?
What imagery comes to mind with them?
We’re not too worried about which name “matches” our current two, so please try to take that out of the equation

Your favourite?
  • [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
  • [name_u]River[/name_u]
  • [name_f]Valencia[/name_f]

Thanks so much!!

Athena and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] are great!

I love [name_f]Valencia[/name_f]. It is a fresh sounding name.

Indigo is not my style, nor is [name_u]River[/name_u], though I love many nature names.

I suppose do you care how the names fit together? I think [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] fits very well with [name_u]Tony[/name_u] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I also just love V names!

However, [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is cute and quippy but feels more “free-spirited/boho” than your other children. At the end of the day both are beautiful options!

I really like [name_u]River[/name_u], but I prefer it on a boy.

Thank you
And thank you so much for sharing your opinion, I find it very helpful to hear others thoughts

It’s not hugely important to me how they fit together - it would be a bonus if they did fit together well, but I don’t want that to factor into the name choice, if that makes sense?
I agree [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] sounds best with [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] though. A lot of V names are very striking!

Funnily enough I feel like I’m leaning towards more “free-spirited” names this time around, possibly because I’ve really found my own spiritual path now and so am feeling more that way inclined.

Strangely I’d always preferred [name_u]River[/name_u] for a girl until [name_u]Toby[/name_u] made me properly consider it for a boy - now I feel like I’m actually swinging the other way, I’ve gone off it slightly for a girl the more I fall in love with it for a boy!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts

Toby, [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] sound the best, but I can’t help but love the story behind [name_u]River[/name_u]! I picked that as the final choice as a [name_u]River[/name_u] girl would be beautiful! I love [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] but don’t really love it sibling set wise, I think [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_u]River[/name_u] would make a lovely set but [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] has a strange but darling appeal

I love [name_u]River[/name_u] for a potential son of yours - the story is just so cute! If you have a daughter, my vote is for [name_f]Valencia[/name_f]. I just think it’s such a strong and stunning name.

I think all three of your options are excellent! [name_f]My[/name_f] pick for a girl would be [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], it’s just beautiful  I think [name_u]River[/name_u] would be charming for a boy, especially from your background of coming to the name.

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts-

Indigo-I love [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]! It does have such a beautiful serene yet at the same time slightly spunky sound w/that ‘o’ ending. And it has beautiful light blue imagery as well. I picture an [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] to be thoughtful, kind, creative & strong. I know that you don’t care how it goes w/Toby & [name_f]Athena[/name_f], but for what it’s worth, it fits in beautifully.

River-I’m personally not fond of this for a girl, but I love the sentiment around it none the less. I do love it for a boy. It’s very rugged & outdoorsy to me. [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u] would be perfect.

Valencia-It’s not my personal favorite either, but it’s not bad & really unique. Lencie is kind of cool. I like [name_f]Valley[/name_f] & [name_f]Viva[/name_f] too. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is so darn over done, I wouldn’t advise using that if popularity bothers you. The fact that your mom doesn’t like it shouldn’t be the ultimate deciding factor. But if you’re trying to find reasons to nit-pick & narrow down, it’s not a bad one.

Hope this helps.

I would normally prefer [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] but [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] goes best with your other children!

The story behind [name_u]River[/name_u] does feel very special! And it will definitely be a part of the name, whether as a first name or a middle name.
I agree [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] would sound the best in the sibset, but we really aren’t too worried about that, we’d rather give the child the name we love the most as opposed to the name that fits in best with their siblings. It would really only come into play if we end up absolutely loving the names equally and had nothing else to differentiate between them.

Valencia [name_u]River[/name_u] is sweet, but [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] really does have a strange and daring appeal to it!!

Thanks so much for you thoughts

Thank you, it’s so nice to see the love [name_u]River[/name_u] is getting for a potential boy
It’s also lovely to hear other people have the same opinion as i do on [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], such a beautiful name! I’m just not sure the hubby is quite as in love with it as I am!

@magalie Aw thank you  I’m loving all this positive feedback on [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy! And so nice to hear others think [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] is beautiful too

@diamondestiny Thank you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@Greyblue Thanks :relaxed: Aw I’m glad to hear some love for [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]! :blue_heart:

@MichelleM Wow thank you for such a lovely response!!
I love the imagery you’ve put with [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], and that explanation, that’s exactly how I picture our third little baby would be :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: and I think I am rather falling for [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u]. The more I think about it the more I’m loving [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy, and less so for a girl - just whenever I picture a [name_u]River[/name_u] it’s a boy now!

The popularity of [name_f]Evie[/name_f] doesn’t overly bother me as it would just be a nickname, but we’re not set on a nickname for [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], we’d probably just wait and see which one came naturally. And while my mum’s feelings on it won’t be the deciding factor, I agree that it could be a way to narrow down. Her opinion does mean a lot to me, and I know she loves [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] and [name_u]River[/name_u]. Hubby also doesn’t quite share my love for [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], so that may well put it off the list once the time comes to name a real baby.

Thank you so much for your opinions  definitely helped a lot!

@anon47024950 thank you for your comment! I agree [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] goes best with [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f], but I’m not too worried about naming as a sibset. If you took my other children’s names out of the equation your vote would be for [name_u]Indigo[/name_u]? [name_f]May[/name_f] I ask why you prefer [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] to [name_f]Valencia[/name_f]?

River hands down. [name_u]River[/name_u] is my #1 favorite boy name. It’s perfection.

Indigo is by far my favourite! So fun and free spirited, I love it.

I also really like [name_u]River[/name_u], but I prefer it on a boy - it works on a girl too, but I think [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] for a girl and [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy would be perfect! [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u] as a first and middle sounds a little descriptive, but I think it’s fresh, modern and sweet.

I don’t mind [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], but it doesn’t have the same fun and fresh vibes as the other two names. It seems heavier, and… not pretentious, but something along those lines. There’s nothing wrong with that! Two of my all-time favourite boy names are slightly stuffy/pretentious, even to my ears, but I love them anyway - especially since I have fresh, approachable nicknames planned for them. So, with a nickname, I could get behind [name_f]Valencia[/name_f]! Lencie is cute, but I’m not a big fan of the other three – that’s why I love [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] the most!

Yes, I would probably say Indigo, to me Indigo is a little more name like and I love the nn option of Indie. Valencia is sweet but a little girly for my liking. Not sure if that makes sense but I hope this helps.
PS: I’m not a big fan of River on a girl but It’s handsome and very striking on a boy.
