My husband is from New Zealand and I am French and Danish. We live in EnglishCanada and our household is bilingual French / English. This will be our second child. Our eldest is named SamuelEvan. Last name sounds like Garfield.
Please, give your opinions on our top names, associations and middle name suggestions. Thank you!
I think all 4 of these are lovely options and you can’t go wrong with any of them. I’ll preface this with me being British and that influencing how I see the names.
Emily strikes me as being more popular (and long-standing popularity too) than the others but it is a pretty name with nice sounds and I like this spelling the most.
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] does still remind me of the book character but it sounds nice again, has the popular -ee ending but is rarer than several of the others. In some ways the vowel heavy start and -ee ending put it in with [name_f]Emily[/name_f] in my head, but a rarer version.
[name_f]Annika[/name_f] is a gorgeous name I personally haven’t heard enough. I like the strong -k in the middle.
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is on my own list and I do love it but it feels a bit softer compared to some of your other choices which does make it distinctive here.
I’d rank them [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] myself but all of them are fantastic options. [name_f]Annika[/name_f] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] sounds a bit fresher and more modern to me than say [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] then sounds more vintage-retro-trendy so they all have slightly different feels.
I think [name_f]Annika[/name_f] is my favorite with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. I also think [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is nice, but you’d have 2 kids with s sounds in the start of their names.
Annika is my favorite. It’s familiar but also interesting and goes great with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is my second favorite. It’s not as exciting as [name_f]Annika[/name_f] but is very cute and pairs really will with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] sounds a bit to similar to the beginning of [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and I don’t think [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] matches with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] very well. Both are nice names though.
Heidi - my favorite option! It’s a pretty name and not overly used. [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
Annika - second favorite. Again, not over used. Seems to fit well for all the different cultures you’re trying to incorporate. [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u], [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Zoey[/name_f].
Cecilia - third favorite. A little hard to spell, especially for a young kid. But it’s a pretty name and has some fun nickname options. [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Brielle[/name_f].
Emily - least favorite. [name_m]Just[/name_m] feels overused. I know soooo many [name_f]Emily[/name_f]’s. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f].
I have a soft spot for [name_f]Annika[/name_f] because that’s my SIL’s name. I’d probably choose it.
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] are lovely. I think I’d pick [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] over [name_f]Emily[/name_f] because I like the nickname options for [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] seems fresh to me today… but I think I’d still pick [name_f]Annika[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] over [name_f]Heidi[/name_f].
Annika - I love this name, I don’t really have any associations with it but I think it’s great. Some middle name options:
Annika [name_u]June[/name_u]
Annika [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
Annika [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
Annika [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
Annika [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
Cecilia - I like this one but not as much as [name_f]Annika[/name_f], it reminds me of a girl I went to middle school with who was a bit of class clown. Middle name options:
Cecilia [name_u]Jean[/name_u]
Cecilia [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
Cecilia [name_f]Briony[/name_f]
Cecilia [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
Cecilia [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
Emily - my least favorite of the bunch, it’s just very very common and I know so many [name_f]Emily[/name_f]’s. Also feels like it’s getting a bit dated. Possible middles:
Emily [name_f]Christine[/name_f]
Emily [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
Emily [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u]
Emily [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
Emily [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
Heidi - love this name, it’s a tie between this and [name_f]Annika[/name_f] for my favorite of your 4. It reminds me of the [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] books and I loved those as a child. Middle name options:
Annika
I really like [name_f]Annika[/name_f]! It reminds me of [name_f]Annika[/name_f] from [name_f]Pippi[/name_f] Longstocking. Middle names: [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
Cecilia
I don’t like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] that much myself but it’s a good name for others. I associate it with someone I know personally. Middle names: [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Angélique[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
Emily
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] is not my favourite [name_f]Em[/name_f]- name but I still enjoy it. I don’t associate it much with anything. Middle names: [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Selena[/name_f].
Heidi
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is lovely, it makes my think of the children’s book. Middle names: [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Ebba[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
I really love the elegant [name_f]Annika[/name_f] and how it sounds with your ln and goes nicely with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
Heidi is so spunky and cute and full of energy and has a different vibe than your other choices so perhaps your choice will be based on your style. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] would be adorable… Also, it is often a nn for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] (which I LOVE)
Cecilia is on my list, my great grandmother was [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (I love that mn with it).
Emily is classic and beautiful but a bit overdone the first part of this century in the states (and also familiar because it made way for the similar alternatives [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and your other choices are more distinctive. if you want something more distinctive., How about [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] (it is like a combo of [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f])? or [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]?
All great choices but my favorites with your ln and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] are [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] and [name_f]Annika[/name_f]
