I am wanting some opinions on our top five girl names. I am open to all opinions, good and bad! All middle names are honor names. If it helps, our last name is a single syllable and starts with a vowel.
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is my favorite, very spunky. Next would be [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]JoAnn[/name_f]. Downside to those is popularity ([name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/la). [name_f]JoAnn[/name_f] also feels frumpy to me–I like [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_u]Jo[/name_u], or [name_f]Ann[/name_f] though. [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is not my style, and [name_f]Anya[/name_f] is OK but doesn’t do anything for me. I had a friend named [name_f]Anya[/name_f] and another friend would make a lot of “on ya” jokes, though I don’t think that’s worth abandoning it over.
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] - My second favorite, really sweet and classy, it has a nice feel to it
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] - Third favorite, I like the combination of a feminine name like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] with [name_u]Jo[/name_u], but I would still prefer a full form of [name_u]Jo[/name_u] like [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Johanna[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u] etc
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]JoAnn[/name_f] - Least favorite, I really dislike “combined” names like [name_f]JoAnn[/name_f], just spell it [name_u]Joan/name_u or [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] - [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is not my style, it makes me think of an old man. What about [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]/[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]? [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f]?
[name_f]Anya[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] - My favorite! [name_f]Anya[/name_f] is adorable and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is a nice middle for it
I’m most fond of [name_f]Etta[/name_f] and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] would be my top pick. It’s spunky and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] is a name you don’t hear too much, but seems familiar as it’s similar to names like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] or [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u] or [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] are all a great mix of pretty and spunky - not sure what you gain from [name_f]JoAnn[/name_f] was it a typo?
2nd fave [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is too close to [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] for me. I do like [name_f]Etta[/name_f].
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]–I’ve never been a fan of [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. I prefer [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] or [name_f]Eveline[/name_f]. I don’t like [name_u]Jo[/name_u] because it’s Hillbilly.
I don’t like [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] due to the character of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] from Twilight. [name_f]JoAnn[/name_f] is dated.
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] is another name I’m not a fan of because it’s masculine. I like [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Anya[/name_f], but I don’t like [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as it’s such a filler name.
Have you considered a using longer name that incorporates [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or a name with the same sound or a version of the name from another language?
[name_f]JoAnn[/name_f] is my grandma’s name, spelled with the capital “A” in the middle. It’s a little different but it’s also where my family gets the middle name “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]” from as well as the very common “[name_f]Ann[/name_f]” or [name_f]Anne[/name_f]". I do love [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] but I’m afraid [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is getting too popular as a name.
For some reason I never thought about [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] being so close to [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], thank you for pointing that out. I love the name [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as it includes [name_u]Jo[/name_u] but unfortunately it is my Aunt’s name. I also dislike the name [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] but for some reason I am very drawn to [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] with the “O” in it.
I [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Etta[/name_f]! I agree with the [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]/[name_f]Loretta[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] comparison, but don’t think that’s an association that would last or be common enough to stir you away.
I also like the idea of [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - this could make for a good deterrence from [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] spellers! I know the middles are honor names but I thought [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] would be sweet. You could also try [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] (I realize this is not one of your listed names, but I think [name_f]Etta[/name_f] is a beautiful first name so I’m just pairing it with the other middles)
