[name]Phoebe[/name] has been my number one girl name for quite sometime, but I’m starting to doubt it. What do you think? Would [name]Phoebe[/name] age well? Is it a goofy name?
I’m probably in the minority, but I have yet to warm up to it. From your list, I really love [name]Iris[/name].
I really like [name]Phoebe[/name]. It took me a while to warm up to it, but I really love it now. It feels warm, smart, charming, literary to me. I would love to meet a [name]Phoebe[/name]! I like it even more in the MN spot, though. At times it can seem kind of whiny.
My sister is [name]Phoebe[/name]. She’s 22 and its hardly goofy! She’s a [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] which is a nice combo [name]IMO[/name].
I adore [name]Phoebe[/name]! It’s both Shakespearean and Biblical. So even though its sound is pretty on the fun side, it’s got that historical grounding. And although it’s light and airy, it’s associated with the moon, and has the letter o, which is “dark” to me. So it’s nicely balanced. I adore the nicknames [name]Fee[/name] and [name]Bee[/name] and love it paired with fellow Biblical name [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Junia[/name] for the option of PJ.
I love it, but I also wonder how it will age. I think the “goofy” association probably comes from the sitcom Friends, but I don’t think that will last much longer.
I love [name]Phoebe[/name] I have for a really long time. Though when I mention it to a name-norm (non-berry or name enthusiast) they go “Oh like in Charmed and Friends?”. It’s becoming more trendy these days but I still think it’s beautiful - but none of that has gotten me yet. I suggest leaving it in the back drawer for a few months and coming back and seeing how you feel. I find sometimes I just need some perspective.
Jesba, I like your perspective on [name]Phoebe[/name]. Lexiem, I think I will put it in the back drawer for now and come back to it later. Thanks for the input everyone, it really helps!
I know [name]Phoebe[/name] is a nameberry favorite, but I just plain don’t like it.
Why nvettie? I’m fine with brutal honesty I want as many perspectives as possible before I actually give it to my child.
I want to like [name]Phoebe[/name], but I don’t. It’s one of those names that looks nicer than it sounds, [name]IMO[/name]. And it reminded me of ‘feeble’ once, and now I can never shake the association.
That’s just me, though. It certainly is a name with solid credentials, and one which a lot of people love.
I love [name]Phoebe[/name]! It’s a beautiful name.
In my head I connect it with names like [name]Chloe[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Bianca[/name]–they just sound so stately and feminine but not frilly.
I love [name]Phoebe[/name]. It sounds light and pretty and almost whimsical to me and the spelling just seems fun. But the moon association helps keep it grounded (ironically) so it doesn’t float away into fairy land. I’ve always liked [name]Phoebe[/name] and would love to meet one in real life.
I loved [name]Phoebe[/name] but ruled it out for myself because I decided it’s too loaded of a name - sounds artsy/flighty. I’m having problems with the name I did give (ruby) for the same reasons. [name]Don[/name]'t want to box a child in to a certain personality.
But I like that name assuming it fits the child. Wish you could know that in advance.
To be honest it is on my list and possibly/probably going to be my little girls name come [name]December[/name]-however my ONLY doubt about it is that is is becoming sooooooo popular here in NZ. And I always said I didn’t want to use a name in the top 50…I love it. It is sweet, has history and ages well. Definitly not goofy! I will keep looking for a name I love as much-but I am yet to find a name I like better. (Ha that my husband also agrees on)!!!
(I also adore [name]Freya[/name] and [name]Cleo[/name]).
[name]Phoebe[/name] is one of my favorites. It is hard for a Biblical name to be goofy. It seems solid and new at the same time!
[name]Phoebe[/name] is probably my #1 name at the moment.
Why: in Australia it has remained in the top 100 for the last 15 years yet has never risen into the top 50. This means it is ‘popular’ but not trendy. I want a name that is reasonably well accepted and known, yet not of the “[name]Isabella[/name]” mega star level.
The name blends in well with popular trendy [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Chloe[/name] names- so the girl would feel part of the crowd without being “[name]Phoebe[/name] LN”. It is a well established name that has a great history and meaning too. I feel it is a name that would suit any age- although for me I feel it suits a child/adult more than a tiny tot. As a tiny tot I would probably call her the nn [name]Bee[/name] a fair bit.
I absolutely love it, and it’s my top name too!
I have a [name]Phoebe[/name] and I [name]LOVE[/name] IT! Of course, I can name 7 other little Phoebes of different ages running around my town! And my daughter is “[name]Phoebe[/name] LN” in her class! I do not regret it as I think it is historically grounded, New Englandy (walk around some old graveyards) and fun and fresh too. However, I AM dismayed that it is being used more! I just went into Target yesterday and one of their “Our Generation” (knock off American Girl) dolls is named “[name]Phoebe[/name]”. Ssshhhh keep it on the downlow people!
I do have to add, if you like a [name]Phoebe[/name] how about [name]Daphne[/name] or [name]Polly[/name]? I [name]LOVE[/name] both of those names and they remind me of [name]Phoebe[/name] but are much less used. If I have another girl, I am going to use [name]Polly[/name] (I also have a [name]Hadley[/name] and think [name]Polly[/name] is a cute middle ground between the two). [name]Just[/name] a thought…
