Opinions on [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f]? (As a first name)
I find it too tied with the character, and I’m not a fan of the character. And I don’t like how it became a term for over-positivity. I could like it if there wasn’t that association (it has a sweet vintage feel) but unfortunately not.
So cute! Used to not be a fan, but the PST few months I’ve been really liking it!
I like it! Not my style, usually, but I love how sweet and warm it feels.
Pollyanna is just a radiant and beautiful name. I ADORE it. I think “[name_f]Polly[/name_f]” on its own is deserving of more recognition as a tropical, sunny name. “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” furthers its felicity. I think it is a darling and bright name.
Of course, personally, considering it being used in REAL life, for one’s daughter, “[name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f]” almost sounds a little too “gung-ho.” It feels a little forced for the 21st century, though I do love classic names. It may come across as the parents trying to cast a “[name_m]Little[/name_m] House on The [name_u]Prairie[/name_u]” image for their daughter.
I hope that helps, if at all!
Pollyanna has flair and brightness!
I love it! I never knew about the character until reading other folks’ replies. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association is actually a presenter who was on UK telly when I was younger ([name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] Woodward) so I’ve always thought of it as a normal name and a sweet way to give [name_f]Polly[/name_f] a longform that offers alternate nicknames for when she’s older and might not want something quite so cute.
This exactly.
I love it!
(I know the association but it isn’t that strong for me)
Id like to see [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] on a little girl!
It’s sorta a combination of a couple styles and I don’t really like so it’s like a Frankenstein’s monster of not my style. I’m not a fan of a lot of vintage nicknames, I’m not a fan of the names [name_f]Polly[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and I’m not a fan of smoosh names.
As a name itself, it’s not bad. I’m not familiar with the character (I’ve heard of her but that’s about it) and I don’t think she’s super well known with kids anymore. The meaning as a slang is not ideal, since it might get annoying, but also not bad.
I want to like it because I think [name_f]Polly[/name_f] is due for a revival, the slang meaning really throws me off though. However I feel like that could be overcome if I actually met someone with this name.
I think [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] is cute, but I think I find it a bit too cute? It’s very nickname-y to me.
Agree. Too cutesy
It’s very sweet. Perhaps too sweet? I find it hard to imagine on a grown woman.
I would love to meet a [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f]. It’s very sweet and I think would be refreshing to see it on a girl/woman of any age. It’s a long name though so I could see it being shortened to [name_f]Polly[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in daily life.
Personally, I find it a bit awkward. The dictionary definition of [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] is “an excessively cheerful or optimistic person”. Because of that, I can imagine somebody named [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f] getting jokes about it and being told to smile.
