I am very newly pregnant, and way ahead of the game here, but I want to know what sounds best with [name]Ruby[/name]! My DH and I have had [name]Ruby[/name] chosen for at least 6 months, and when I have suggested middle names, he normally shoots them down. I am drawn to 3+ syllable names (last name is 1 syllable). I kept coming up with names starting with ‘E’ and having the emphasis on the middle syllable:
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
He doesn’t like any of those. [name]Do[/name] you have any other suggestions that would be along the same feel and flow as those?
Recently I suggested [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Juliet[/name]. He thinks these are much better. What do you think?

Or should I bring these up again?

[name]Ruby[/name] is a lovely name, and I agree that a 3+ syllable middle name will work nicely with it. I’m not so sure that an “E” name is the way to go, though. I know her full name will not be said together all that often, and that it is most important to pick a name that you like, but the ending “ee” sound in [name]Ruby[/name] doesn’t pair well with a beginning “e” sound.
I’m not really a fan of the [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] or [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Violet[/name] combinations, either. The “u” sound is repeated in [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Juliet[/name], and [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Violet[/name] is an awful lot of color name.
In the end, it’s whatever you like. I think the individual names are all very lovely.

Those are perfectly lovely combos! Too bad hubs isn’t on board.
I’m okay with the other two choices, but they aren’t ideal to me. [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] shares very similar sounds (think [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Julie[/name] and how they rhyme) which turns me off. [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] are both colors (well, obviously ruby is a gem, but it can also describe a color), so I’m not real crazy about that either.
ETA: Jinx on like half your post, @dovah, haha! You also bring up a great point that an “E” middle might not be the best choice because of the “e” sound that Ruby ends with. I hadn’t thought of that, but you’re right.
[name]Ruby[/name] is our #1 name too! I would have had [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] as my middle, but my husband isn’t fond of it. I think it sounds beautiful! Good luck!
