We just found out today we are expecting a boy! The only two names that I love are [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. Unfortunately, I know too many little [name_u]Sam[/name_u]'s. What does everyone think of [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] with the nickname [name_m]Shep[/name_m]? I think it is friendly and and familiar without being overly popular. Please be completely honest! Good or bad, I want to know. Thanks!
I am in love with the name [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. I don’t mind the nickname [name_m]Shep[/name_m] either, but I hadn’t even thought of it. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] has such a romantic sound, and there’s a video game link too. DH & I are big gamers. Unfortunately [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is off my list. It’s the surname of someone with whom I have a very negative association. But, I do still love it.
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] makes me think of the Bible. If you are OK with that connection, I think it is a great name. I love the nickname [name_m]Shep[/name_m]! So much more creative than [name_u]Sam[/name_u]. It also makes me think of the show LOST ([name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]), but that probably isn’t a reference you will have to worry about too much! And congrats on your little boy!
I love both [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] & [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! I have to be honest: I strongly disliked the name until I met a little boy of the name a couple weeks ago. Now I think it’s darling!
It’s good to hear that other people like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] too! Thanks for the feedback! The only person in real life that I asked said it sounded snobby. I was kind of thrown because I hear a warm and friendly name when I say it. I think of a really sweet kid who gets along with everybody. More opinions are very welcome!!!
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], but I prefer it as a MN. It’s just a bit too out-there for me personally, and I am not crazy for [name_m]Shep[/name_m] (it sounds like a dog’s name to me, sorry!). I would love to see [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], though. I think that’d be fab. But I would be tickled pink to meet a little boy named [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m].
I actually kind of like it, but I’m not sure about the nn [name_m]Shep[/name_m].
[name_m]Shep[/name_m] = ugh. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is nice enough, but just because you know a lot of Samuels doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use that name. Your kid doesn’t need a unique name to be special. I was one of three with my first name in elementary school & no one ever saw us as a homogenous blob of Lilys, and the same went for all the Sams I knew. [name_u]Sam[/name_u]/[name_u]Sammy[/name_u]/[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] is a classic, likable name. Never knew a [name_u]Sam[/name_u] that was an asshat.
I’m not a fan. I see it on here quite a lot so I think it’s quite popular on Nameberry. [name_m]Shep[/name_m] is a dog name hands down.
I like it a lot. If anyone has a dog named [name_m]Shep[/name_m] they have excellent taste. I say [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] over [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], hands down.
I think of it as a dog’s name; on a child it sounds silly and there is a lot of teasing potential
