I usually am attracted to classic names. My daugher’s name is [name]Julia[/name] and we have a boy on the way. I like [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] along with a few other names along that vein. My husband really likes Elic. His grandmother called his father (named [name]Alexander[/name]) Elic. I can’t even find this name on nameberry and I’m afraid it’s a name we might need to explain/repeat a lot. Perhaps I’m too rigid in my name preferences. What are people’s thoughts when they here this name?
*here=hear
My honest opinion is I think it would be a name misheard as [name]Eric[/name] or [name]Alec[/name] quite a bit, which would likely require a lot of repeating on your part.
Unfortunately, this was my exact reaction to this name. I’m sorry! I like the back story and where you’re going with it, but ultimately I believe it would be a mess. [name]Alexander[/name] is a GREAT classic name. [name]Alex[/name] and [name]Alec[/name] could both be good compromises. [name]Even[/name] [name]Anders[/name] or [name]Anderson[/name] could be a great way to honor that relative. My honest opinion would be to stay away from Elic and use something similar ([name]Alec[/name]) or more traditional ([name]Alexander[/name], [name]Anderson[/name],) to honor that grandfather.
Thanks! I think you both are right.
I think [name]Alec[/name] by itself or as a nickname for [name]Alexander[/name] would be wonderful.
As far as I can tell Elic (sometimes spelled [name]Elek[/name]) is a NN for [name]Alexius[/name] in Hungary that is occasionally used as a stand alone name.
I don’t think it’d be a bad name on it’s own, but it does seem more like a NN to me.
[name]Alexander[/name] with [name]Alec[/name] as a NN, or the stand alone name of [name]Ellis[/name], would be good potential options…
I think it’s too unconventional and think you should use some form of [name]Alexander[/name]. I love [name]Alec[/name] as a stand alone name.
I read it as [name]Eric[/name] at first glance…there would be a lifetime of yelling at automated phone services ahead
I think it would be more trouble than it is worth.
Elik or Ilik is a Russian name that can be a nn or a stand alone name as far as I know. I like it.
With [name]Julia[/name] & [name]Elek[/name] if I saw it on paper, I would read your daughter’s name as [name]Yulia[/name]. It could read as a very Eastern European sibset. I do like it a lot though!
I think [name]Eric[/name] is handsome but a bit dated and Elic revives it for me. I love that it’s Russian but not ott & I love that it has meaning for you
[name_f]Elek[/name_f] is a traditional boys name in Hungary. I love it!
