[name_f]Every[/name_f] time my mom and I talk about baby names, she mentions that she likes the name [name_u]Jude[/name_u] for a boy. At first, I didn’t really like the name, it was just okay. Now it’s starting to grow on me. I like the connection to [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u], the patron saint of lost causes and the impossible. And of course [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]'s hospital. But I have a few questions. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think everyone will associate [name_u]Jude[/name_u] with: a) [name_m]Judas[/name_m], the apostle who betrayed [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] b) [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] c) the Beatles song “Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u]” ? What is your general opinion of the name?
Thanks in advance!
I love the name. In answer to your questions:
a) no, I don’t associate [name_u]Jude[/name_u] with [name_m]Judas[/name_m] (to me they are different);
b) I only think of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] when asked to think about what I think about the name-- it doesn’t instantly come to mind the way “the friendly ghost” comes to mind when I hear [name_m]Casper[/name_m];
c) “Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u]” is one of my mom’s favorite songs so I associate it with the song in a positive way.
I absolutely adore [name_u]Jude[/name_u] ([name_m]Judah[/name_m] is on my list), but I’m put off by its rapidly rising popularity. If that’s not a concern for you, absolutely use [name_u]Jude[/name_u]! It’s such a strong, handsome, approachable name. If I was a boy, I would want to be called [name_u]Jude[/name_u] (yes, I’ve thought about this :P).
I don’t associate [name_u]Jude[/name_u] with either [name_m]Judas[/name_m] or The Beatles. Then again, I really like the name [name_m]Judas[/name_m], am a Jew, and not a Beatles fan, so take that with a grain of salt. I don’t think it’s inextricably tied to [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] - though he’s one of my favorite actors (and my imaginary celebrity husband), so I actually think the association is a plus.
I really like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and I wouldn’t immediately associate it with [name_m]Judas[/name_m] or [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m], but as mentioned above, what you maybe should consider is that [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is really popular at the moment but if you are ok with that you should consider it as a name choice.
My exact thoughts!
I think it is a great name!
[name_f]Love[/name_f] it! I don’t think of [name_m]Judas[/name_m] at all, but I do think of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] and “Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u]”–both in a good way!
My initial thought is “Hey, [name_u]Jude[/name_u],” and although he will likely receive this joke a million times over the course of his life, I don’t think there’s any real negative association with the name. [name_m]Judas[/name_m] wasn’t even on my radar, and to me “[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m]” reads like 1 full name… I never think of him as being a “[name_u]Jude[/name_u].” (Similarly with [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] Depp. I don’t ever think of him as just a “[name_m]Johnny[/name_m]”).
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Judas[/name_m] are TWO different apostles so I don’t link them together. [name_f]One[/name_f] was good ([name_u]Jude[/name_u]) and one was a baddie ([name_m]Judas[/name_m]) Yes, the name makes me think of actor [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] and the Beatles’ song “Hey, [name_u]Jude[/name_u]” but they aren’t horrible associations, are they? The [name_u]Jude[/name_u] in the song actually refers to [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Lennon[/name_m]'s son [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. For such a short, one-syllable name, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] sounds strong and masculine. And as far as popularity is concerned, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] was No# 162 in the US in 2012 (that’s just 2,456 boys) so unless they’re are loads of Judes running around where you live, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
I really like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but I think it makes a lovely middle name rather than a first name.
I have a cousin name [name_u]Jude[/name_u]… and though someone occasionally brings up the [name_m]Judas[/name_m] association, it is not very often.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] religious persons (and my family is very religious) know the difference between St. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Judas[/name_m], but that doesn’t mean that the association won’t be brought up.
I’d go for it, my 4 yr old cousins name is [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and he seems to be wearing the name quite well
I love the name [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. It’s on my favorite list. I do think of the Beatles song, “Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u]” when I hear it, but I don’t think that is bad association at all.
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a likeable, sweet name. I guess I think of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] and “Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u]”, but that’s definitely not a bad thing. It’s not a one-person name like [name_f]Oprah[/name_f] or anything. Think of it this way: it comes with its own lullaby.
I associate it with the song “Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u],” but I think it’s an appropriate name for a boy! I actually never considered it until I started watching The Fosters, where they have a foster son who is about 10 named [name_u]Jude[/name_u].
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] is a nice name. I do think of the song, but is that really that bad? I see it more as a NN, but it is usable as a first name.
I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is very wearable.
I did slightly think of [name_m]Judas[/name_m].
I didn’t even remotely think of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m].
I was singing :Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u] in my head… but I like that song- it has a good meaning.
Overall, I think it is a good name. I falls into the same basket as [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] in my mind- a bit unisex ish due to [name_f]Judy[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f].
[name_f]Love[/name_f] love love [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. It’s on my list for future sons, even though it doesn’t really fit with my other names.
It’s probably in the top 200 but I’ve never met another [name_u]Jude[/name_u] except for in a novel haha.
My vote goes for yes!
Personally, I’m not a fan of [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. I don’t think of [name_m]Judas[/name_m] at all, any more than I would automatically associate it with the [name_m]Judah[/name_m] in the Old Testament. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m] isn’t a bad association, and I don’t think it is an iron clad one by any means. Not like, as someone mentioned, naming a child [name_f]Oprah[/name_f] or [name_f]Cher[/name_f]. I’m a huge Beatles fan, and Hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u] happens to be my number one favorite song of all time. So, for me the connection with the Beatles is only an awesome bonus. What stops me is that I picture it as a somewhat wimpy, nerdy person. It doesn’t seem to have the strength or Oomph that I personally like to see in my name choices.
I love the name [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and plan on naming my son [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] is tied at #1 on my list. it’s been my #1 for several years. i AM a beatle’s fan & one of my favorite songs ‘hey [name_u]Jude[/name_u]’ turned me on to the name. i don’t associate it with [name_m]Judas[/name_m] as i instead think of the [name_u]Jude[/name_u] that wrote the book of [name_u]Jude[/name_u] instead. i also think of the sexy, sexy [name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Law[/name_m], which i think is totally fine. all in all, i love it
